Robbie Raps - Weside Raps (Album)

After taking a brief hiatus from the limelight of the hip-hop scene, Robbie Raps emerged in a surprising fashion with an announcement that an album from him would soon be releasing. From then, we started getting teasers of his upcoming project, which he titled “Weside Raps,” where he began a rollout with a listening party at Friends Of Sound that gave listeners a sneak peek of what’s to come from his anticipated drop. He then dropped the highly-talked about visual to him & Baby Aztro's collaborative record titled “Shogun Flow,” which the record would appear later on the album. Robbie Raps was back at the place he graciously resided before he left, which was having fans waiting on pins and needles to hear the conscience raps from him that made headway during last weekend, where many people gravitated towards the release and have been stuck in a loop of hearing Robbie express his weside raps in a remarkable performance.

Robbie doesn’t take long to separate his lifestyle from others; as in the intro record titled “Live Like Us,” he explains that he’s living in the moment where others are pacing themselves or not making valid moments to see more out of life. Try all you want; you couldn’t mimic his life if you wanted. He’s passed you in centuries, where it feels like he’s running laps around you. Partee McFly & Bobby Newport channel the same feeling throughout their verse, and they bring a level of nuance to the track that sets the mood for the rest of the project. He’s not preaching wisdom throughout this release; he’s showing you the knowledge behind it. Robby has always been a skilled emcee breaking down life’s mysteries. It sounds crazier than it seems, but whenever he gets to spitting, it’s transforming your mind state to think outside the box. Records like “C’est La Vie” & “Have Fun” are some of my favorite joints off the project because they balance out the highs & lows of Robbie’s mentality when it comes to art. He constructs his heavy heart on wax, and it comes out expressing profound lyricism, which is a wicked combination to hear. The concept of “Weside Raps” to me is him sharing a bit more of himself that we haven’t heard before. Robbie is very open, especially when you speak to him in person, and sometimes that might not be the case when it comes to music. Still, I think he’s always been someone to wear his emotions on his sleeve & I think he’s speaking on subject matter that is new to him to talk about in music. This project would be the venting session in which he needs to confide with the most important people to him: the listeners.

It’s great to see Robbie back on the forefront; I’m hoping more visuals are in the works from this release. I would love to see a performance from him as well. We highly recommend if you haven’t had the chance to hear this album yet that, you do so today and share it on all social media avenues.
