Deni Reed - Piece Of Mine (EP)
Before welcoming back her performance series Costal Sunday last weekend, Deni Reed had previously dropped a 5-track EP titled “Piece Of Mine,” in which she describes this project to be her ode to a heartbreak & references the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on occasion throughout the project since she’s finding clarity in her life like the lead character, Clementine. From the mixture of her angelic vocals to the lustful production being pressed together, Deni’s soft touch for emotions in every word she sings builds a soundscape of feeling to enjoy from beginning to end.
Baby, you good like “Fine Wine,” just one look and she’ll make you hers. Deni Reed’s sultry tone takes charge by raising the temperature in the record while hypnotizing you right out the gate. You be good to her & she’ll make sure she’s good to you, don’t doubt her love because she’ll end up surprising you on what she can do to please you. She’s not like any other woman, so treat her right and take it slow to endure every unforgettable moment together. Her follow-up record titled “See You” is a little more intimate than its predecessor since she explains wanting you in a more x-rated fashion to feel your touch & love for the evening. She sees you as the person who wants to be with her and is feeding into her desire to be as close as she can to you. She is tempted to see what’s underneath you, even if it’s for one last time. Deni Reed shines gracefully in these two records alone; it already sets the motion that she’s going beyond her comfort zone to give you a little bit more of herself & it continues forward in the rest of the tracks. She fights with the vices in “Holding Back” since she’s seen herself too many times being faded without a care in the world.
You may not be suitable for her, but she wants you; just Ike the substance in her double cup or the kush in your blunt. It’s a temporary sedative that mimics her feelings. She can’t get tired of your love, so don’t ask her if she’s had enough; she’s always going to give in to you even if it’s not the best choice. Her deepest feelings are put on the line in her track “Losing Control,” in which she hoped for that special person in her life to be her ride or die but unfortunately had other plans. The workload was there on her end, she made this possible for you both, but you had trouble seeing the good in her. There was no reason for it since she’s been upfront about what she wanted, and if it’s something you didn’t, you should’ve told her before doing unspeakable matters to hurt her. She’s losing control of herself, which could have been prevented if you were honest like she’s been to you. Deni defines herself as a kind soul who wants to find love from the right person, we all have faults, and she’s not afraid to say hers. We all act off emotion, and sometimes we miss the opportunity to find what we want or do, leading to heartbreak where we don’t want to try again. Her outro record, “Feel This,” capitalizes on that description very well since she’s endured the pain before, and it hurts to be in the same position since we don’t know what the outcome looks like from here. I love this EP so much because she doesn’t hold back anything on here; what you hear is 100% Deni Reed. It may be a beautiful nightmare she discusses in her ballads, or it might be an endearment piece to know there’s still something out there for somebody, she’s the voice of love & lust with a touch of heartbreak, but she’s still human and looking for her step back into happiness again.
The project came at the right time, especially when I recently had some of the similar issues. It’s a painful process, but music like this hits the heartstrings hard, and it’s for a good reason. It’s the relatable factor that puts you in a position to find hope again; right now, peace is where it’s at, but love will return to your life someday again. We highly recommend you check out Deni Reed’s beautiful EP here while sharing it around on all social media avenues.
