Jiggs - S.W.R.D. (Video)
Before the weekend started, I had seen a clip of a visual that director Jomir had recently done for Atlanta emcee Jiggs titled “S.W.R.D” that instantly had me intrigued. We had become fans of Jomir’s work due to his recent video direction on Marco Plus's “Slide,” which I loved the home recording aesthetic of the release & hoped we get another opportunity to feature some of his work back on the site. Speaking of Marco Plus, the first time we heard Jiggs was on “Crack Music” off Marco’s “The Souf Got Sum 2 Say” album, and now seeing both their name appear in our direction because of Marco, we got to give him a shoutout for aligning both these creatives in our path once again. In the small clip I saw, I loved what I heard and viewed, which I couldn’t wait to get some time in this week to review and place on the page for our viewership to lock in with this admirable release.
From the research I did before working on the review, the record came from Jiggs 2021 album, “Southside’s Hope Vol.1,” which is a powerful project speaking on the trials & tribulations of growing up in an environment that seeks from you create chaos and doing what you have to do to survive in the harsh reality of the concrete jungles. The outro record “S.W.R.D.” stands for Still Water Runs Deep, which I love because it’s what I describe myself to be. I’m reserved and keep my emotions to myself, while inside, I’m passionate about what I do and don’t know how to show that response to others. It’s a deep-rooted sentiment, and Jiggs ain’t afraid to say it but uses music as a way to vent it since he would rather be placed six feet in the earth than to see the tears leave his eyes. He explains the difference between his coming up to most of his peer's choices, and while you take a step in his shoes in this record, you still don’t know the path it took to get here. Being a product of his neighborhood could’ve been worse, but he learned to achieve greatness by making better decisions than those in similar positions. He let his soul start spilling into the record; go back to the beginning of his story and see he isn’t hiding one thing from his past. The visual envisions his time out on the road, performing & seeing his home as the background of what made him the person you hear, revealing more of himself to the world. Jiggs demeanor may be too shy to let you know everything about him, yet he wears his heart on his sleeve to give you what you can to see this passion in his rhymes is no mask but a journey to his growth spread. One of the best ways to know an artist is by understanding them when they share a piece of vulnerability with you; we’re all human, and to see that from Jiggs made me respect him more and that I make sure to give him my full attention from here on out.
I’m hype to see what the future holds for Jiggs, this record made me a fan, and the visual did it justice to let his story be told in an astounding way. Expect great things to come from Jiggs, and if you aren’t familiar, I recommend you get started now. Check out the recently released video here and share it on all social media avenues.
