D’Shaun - Sincerely D’Shaun, II (Album)
Two days before we entered February, D’Shaun dropped his highly anticipated album “Sincerely D’Shaun, II,” the follow-up to his 2017 project that helped introduce us to his music. Since then, we’ve grown fond of seeing the accomplishments & highlights of his career in hip-hop that have made him a shining example of how talented the city is. D’Shaun presented this album to us, saying that this was his best work to date, which I was taken back by since I’ve grown a custom to that very description from him since the beginning stages of his journey. He has always given us content with so much heart & pride in it, yet, in this album, he gave me pure hope. I was battling a lot of stress & problems in my personal life at the time of this album, and it healed me to a sense that I would see better days past these dark clouds soon. It won’t happen today; it probably won’t happen tomorrow, but eventually, it will. D’Shaun speaks about the similar path he was on, he talks about where he’s been at in life and how the road ahead wasn’t what he always believed it be, but after all this, D’Shaun still stands being the artist he is & the man he was meant to be. The album is a powerful sentiment that I cherish very much & I needed to make sure my soul was in this review like his was in this music.
Bounce with D’Shaun on the intro record, “Starlord,”; while most trap-filled production doesn’t carry much substance in them, nowadays, this one is the exception. He speaks on how his come-up came about; he couldn’t go down a familiar road that his peers were doing but decided to give you the rawness. While most didn’t accept the change in sound, it didn’t stop D’Shaun from producing the work. He always felt like he had to battle more than most due to this difference, yet this is the drive that helped him along his way. He continues a similar tone in the following few records like “Slim Reaper” & “LENA” with Tommy Gold, where you can sense more express emotions in the record. While the first half of the project carry out these deeper meaning, he also has a few bops that are insane. Take “Kickback,” for example; the track is a vibe, but not like a usual vibe but in the fact that this joint goes up & splashes with an intense wave when your listening to it. My lady stepped into my office when this record was spinning, and she immediately said this felt like a back in the day house party, which I think fit perfect for what D’Shaun was going for. His resume is on the forefront throughout this project where he didn’t hold anything back; his wins, losses, the good times, and the bad are all on display here. Even with the outro “Frvr Ryl” hits, you’ve gone through and heard the life and time of D’Shaun. He didn’t hold back one ounce of his artistry on this album; he delivered all of himself for the people to hear his heart roar. It’s loud & stunning; people will listen to the album and think masterpiece. I heard it and felt more. There’s no word to put for this album; D’Shaun has outdone himself, which is still a surprise to say, but what he accomplished here is paramount, and it’s now for the world to witness this gifted emcee.
I’m sure visuals are in the works, and maybe some performances are due, but I ask everyone that reads our reviews and article to make time and listen to this album. Don’t just play it to hear it but understands each word, each melody he gives on this track, and put someone new on to it today. Share it around on all social media platforms.
