Honie Gold - Mistreated (Ep)

Honie is here to bare it all, heart & soul on her latest EP. She’s been “Mistreated” for far too long & it’s about time she put her foot down & speak upon her experiences. Her self awareness on that intro is what leads us into the ode of dissociation that is “Wonderland”. It should be more than a misdemeanor the shit women have to face, especially in this business. The odds are already stacked against her based off that but she’ll be damned if she sits back & does nothing to dead these notions. She’s finally becoming privy to all the bullshit & it’s only fueling her fire. Her vocal work is all over the place on this record, switching between many different styles in one track, very ambidextrous.

On “Not My Type”, she has to sternly let someone know that they simply aren’t. They seem to be wasting their time trying to holler at her but she requires much more than average girl & quite frankly, can immediately tell that this person ain’t even gonna be able to step up to the challenge so they should just fall in line. She may be submissive but only for the right man & honey, you should just leave well enough alone before you hurt yourself. Work on how you present yourself to her & then she’ll show you what she can do. “What I Do” is a sensual number all about expressing her sexuality. She clearly feels this person may just be her type so the freak is coming out tonight & they better be prepared.

When things “Go Wrong”, she simply learns from the mistake but in this case, it’s a bit confusing, as she can’t pinpoint when exactly things between them took a turn for the worst. It sucks when you assume things are going smoothly only for them to end abruptly. Things like this can leave an individual extremely “Love Sick”. I’m sure we’ve all been there, working through a breakup is tough but once you get through the wallowing stage she beautifully & poignantly captured on this record, what lies on the other side is truly beautiful but it’s not gonna happen overnight, as much as we may want to, as much as we ask ourselves why we aren’t over this person yet. Some days it may even feel “Hopeless” but you can’t expect to just get over someone who once meant the world to you like it’s nothing, regardless of how bad the relationship may have been. Only after the fact do we tend to see the flags that only looked like flags at the time as red ones. Things come full circle as she overcomes this heartbreak & finally invests all that time into building herself up into the boss we see today on “NBT.” Overall, this is Honie’s best work to date & only further cements her stay, let alone reigning presence in this game.
