Jay Nice - Strips (Album)
Since being introduced to emcee Jay Nice at the end of July, I’ve grown to study his pen game and catalog, and I’ve concluded that he’s one of the most endured & underrated artists in hip-hop. A plethora of prestigious art wielded from his collaborative efforts with Ru$h to his solo shit which are all memorable projects, some of the most notorious qualities that I’ve come across. Still, he ushers in more music to wake up those that still sleep on him. His latest project, titled “Strips,” is honestly a creative release, taking famous comic strip titles and using them to his advantage to showcase his lyrical presence. It’s by far one of the best things that is currently out and will surely have many of our viewership gravitating to instantly.
Sampling each comic strip before divulging into the DJ Tako production, Jay Nice begins the project with his intro record named after the perpetual klutz “Beetle Bailey,” where Jay spazzes out with witty raps and immaculate wordplay. Applying pressure with every bar like he’s constructing Alcatraz, Jay Nice innovates his rhyme scheme on records with precessional tactics. Going off in the following record named after Charles Shultz’s creation “Peanuts,” he lets the theme music starts playing before he lets the lyrical cannon start dumping. The verse sounds like it got dipped in acid and fed to your favorite rappers, so they don’t have any more fake shit to say. Jay Nice isn’t playing with y’all in this project; this shit is too hot, like he’s competing on temperature inclination with the sun. Think twice before sleeping again on Jay Nice, his ability to shift comical expressions into deadly sequences in rap is another reason to fear this man’s mic game. From “Hagar The Horrible” to “The Far Side,” Jay Nice conducts himself to be a genius with the creativity behind his blueprint, to dish out hotlines named after beloved characters and form it together to be one of hip-hop's most incredible gem.
Not even 48 hours after being out, Jay Nice has already announced a new album from him is to be released on Friday. Of course, we’ll be staying glued in once it drops, but we recommend new fans and existing ones to continue supporting Jay Nice. His physical copies are pure art and some of the best works to date; make sure to get someone new onto his latest joint here while sharing it on all social media avenues.
