Southside Hoodlum - Groove (Video)

Hoodlum has had quite the active year so far & not even just musically either, though he has been blessing us here & there with his ever growing style. From his appearance on No Jumper to his feature in S.A. Life to the merchandise becoming even more bigger to now doing shows in Norway, like are you kidding me? San Antonio made it all the way to Norway, that’s insane & insane because, most of this that he has achieved was done with little to no promo at all, just off the sheer strength of his musical output, as well as just him as a person. He wouldn’t have a mural & billboards put up for nothing, he’s truly a man of the people & we’re forever grateful that he continues to elevate his sound for us.

On his latest “GROOVE”, Hoodlum does his usual, blessing us with the two parter. The first portion of this record is definitely on that groovy shit, with HOODLUM lyrically sliding over Big Tex Johnny’s production as smoothly as he always has. At this point, HOODLUM is just showing out how effortlessly he’s able to infect your mind with his viscous flow, his lean laced lyricism oozing out the double cup onto the record like molasses. He’s basking in the fruits of his labor, be it money or the private stripper dance, the jewels he has just flooding the vicinity, sure to drown out the rhinestones & cubic zirconias most of these rappers be flaunting. Even the gas he be blowing on is right off the ship, that might’ve even been what sent him overseas to begin with, gas so good, make you teleport.

On the 2nd half of this video, we get blessed with “DOPE SALES”, with HOODLUM back in his soulful bag. I absolutely love whenever he speaks his gritty tales of his past over these samples Tex has produced him with. Retro Moy did his thing with these visuals as well & I must point out how ridiculous it was of YouTube to put age restrictions on his videos & one in particular that didn’t even have footage of him flashing guns, rather it was merely an important & informatively educational record but I guess that’s how it goes when you “BROWN IN AMERIKKA”, always trying to block your shine in some way but fuck it, if he gotta blur the gun out to prevent the fuckery then so be it but you gonna get his message either way, you can’t silence his voice, which is honestly his biggest weapon as he continues to calmly execute these records of his.
