Mondo Slade - TV Land (Music Video)

I think I might’ve just been scrolling through Instagram when an ad popped up informing me about Mondo Slade. It was the track “Julio”, which was also taken from his opus “Master Speech”, which is a must hear for any fan of Hip Hop & not just cause the obvious Ghostface homage on the cover, which that alone should draw you in but it’s everything else within it that is so intriguing. It’s an ominous & spiritually elevating journey into the psyche of the elite level lyricist. Another standout on the project is of course “TV Land”, which we’ve been blessed with the visual treatment for.

“TV Land” is a beautiful concept record as he’s equating the bitches he’s fucking with all these old school TV shows, as well as characters. The amount of classic shows & actors that are dropped on this record is astonishing & if you’ve never any of the ones listed in his litany here, then you will be well advised to do so. This sounds like something I’d see on the telly deep in the middle of the night, when I wake up at random in a cold sweat, grabbing for some water to cure my dry throat & scrambling to find out exactly what it was I just saw. Imagine this video being an intermission for your grandma’s latest episode of “Murder She Wrote”. Granny should be so thankful.

Louis Koles direction for the visuals is as simplistically gorgeous as the record itself. We just got Mondo chilling in the home theatre, breaking it all down as to why these tv land hoes just aren’t worth it. Even got the actual TV Land logo, which, the syndication better cut them a check for, that’s free promotion, though they might not appreciate the hilarity of his performance here. Luckily, whoever is tuning in to the latest episode of “Master Speech”, is here for all the humor Mondo just has to let off. I just really admire the subtle comedy here, Hip Hop & Comedy have always gone hand in hand to me, although he seems very genuine in his sentiments here. Definitely an early top contender for music video of the year & it’ll be a hard concept to top at that.
