Jehry Robinson - The Name Is Not Important (Album)

“The Name Is Not Important” is just Jehry Robinson being humble, his name very much does matter but you can always expect that humility from Strange Music artists, even though, those who are in the know, know damn well they can out-music everybody, not just outrap. Jehry has a very diverse sound, which of course made him a great addition to the Strange family & since his signing back in 2020, he’s been on a tear, doing plenty of records with his label mates & even releasing his excellent debut “20/Twenty” so it’s only right he continue that momentum this new year with an album that not only blows its predecessor out the water but is one of the most unique releases to come out the camp.

Like their last collab, Jehry & Tech kick off the album with the lyrical flexercise “Out My Face”, which showcased how much of a spitter Jehry is to be able to hold his own among the general, who delivers one of his flyest verses in recent years, that Shameless reference! Jehry then takes us right into that emotion we’ve come to love from him, letting us into his life but doing so in a way that is catchy, like, the issues he’s facing are tough but he’s still choosing to be positive & allow the scars in his mind to heal. I don’t think Jehry is someone you wanna leave “On Read”, don’t you know he’s a little dysfunctional, I tell you, love will have you acting so out of character if you allow it to.

We’re aware “Everything’s On Fire” but, we can’t let this world bring us down, as cruel as it may be, all we can do is be ourselves & do what we can. It’s always nice when artists can come down from the pedestals we put them on to get to a level playing field with the fan, something Jehry does plenty on this album with songs like “Cancellations” & “Full View”, which feature two gorgeous features from Nani Layilaa & Rose The Mermaid. The diversity on this album might be “Too Much” for some but that’s one of the main things I appreciate about Strange, they just do what they want & on top of it, are so consistent with pumping out great music & signing even greater talent. How can you jump around from club bangers like the Justina Valentine assisted “Another Round” to raw Hip Hop with “Butterflies”, to Reggae tinged Pop numbers like “Weekend”, Jehry has a little something for everybody & by the time you’re done with this album, you’ll see why The Name Is Important.
