Isaiah Flowers - ADGTH (Album)

“All Dogs” go to heaven on Isaiah Flowers acronymically titled sophomore effort, which begins with a very subtle ode those closest to him, he’s trying to pave a way for everybody to follow suit, he’s not interested in leading them down the garden path, regardless of how they may have wronged him in the past but he will continue doing so from a distance, it’s all love but it’s not the energy he needs around him. If I had to box in the sound of this record, it’s like some Trip Pop vibes, it has that Hip Hop feel to it with his rhymes throughout but the auto tuned effect on his vocals make it feel Pop to me & then all the electronica tinged instrumentation in the background all come together for a beautiful album introduction.

Isaiah is on the go, trying to find a way out of his “Hometown”, even though I’m sure that’s scary for some cause we’re so accustomed to what we know but we mustn’t fear change but it seems those changes weren’t all they were cracked up to be & he’s feeling a bit homesick, lonesome for the place he knows best, he left behind a lot in his life I’m sure to achieve his dreams. I love when artists incorporate voicemails in their music, these skits add so much to the story, clearly that was someone very dear to him expressing concern for his loved one & apparently it prompted him to grab his “Passport” & head back home, it’s the most bittersweet record on this project for me personally.

On “Ten Speed”, he & Mira are bicycling through the cycle of life, reminiscing on the past & how simple things were back then, back when they were still innocent, now they’re living worldly but they still yearn for who they used to be, those kids are clearly still somewhere within them if they’re able to channel their longing for them on this bubbly little number. Of course, the previously released “Send It To the Ground” is among the standouts on this record, a floor stopper if you’ve ever heard one. “Is This It” though, is this what his life is, it appears so cause he’s “Not Getting Younger” anytime soon so while there’s nothing wrong with nostalgia, forward is the only way he knows he can go, regardless how lonely it may get for the “Superhero” at the top.
