Christine Renner - Heartbreaker (EP)
I immediately thought of Everclear’s “Santa Monica” with those opening strums right out the gate. It’s definitely a lovely beginning to this journey through the “Heartbreaker” Christine Renner is, but who wouldn’t want to get their heartbroken by her willingly; be the subject of one of these records. Like I said prior, we’re already off to a great start with “In Love with Love,” where she details just what a hopeless romantic she is. Tell me about a girl, but she is so full of love & joy, thinking of that special someone who may have gotten away. She’s still very much in love; maybe it just didn’t work out for whatever reason. Regardless, a very hopeful & honest way to kick things off.
Tonalities are toned down come the title track, a poignant little number about who she is. She told him before that she’s a heartbreaker and a damn good lover as long as you can accept that. She’ll kindly let open her portcullis, break down those walls so as long as you don’t overstep the boundaries, she admits she falls in love too quick without actually really getting to know people & then once the rush is done coursing through her veins, they become cold & she becomes distant, maybe for your own good, let’s be a little optimistic here, even though it may be the last time you see her, I sure hope not cause that was so long ago.
The previously released “Sweet” found Christine exhibiting that, shit actually ain’t as sweet as you may have thought. This record is strong enough to crush jawbreakers, with her teeth, not a shard on those cherry lips, which I don’t know if I’m correct, but if that’s a Garbage homage. They have a record of the same name; then, she’s even more badass than I thought, being that’s one of my favorite bands. I know damn well she knows them cause she’s Rock N Roll at its finest, a “Young Girl” but all woman baby. Don’t be feeling any type of way because she naturally attracts attention rather than seeking it like perhaps you’re obviously doing. She doesn’t got time for that noise, so she’s here to “Drown” it out before she becomes too submerged in it; each of these records splashing with waves of emotion makes me feel like sediment weathering.
