Kevin McGee - Double Up (Single)
Kevin McGee been on a tear this entire year, elite single after elite single, eventually all compiled into a respective EP, also opening up the McGee Marketplace which, I already have a strong affinity for alliteration so he had me there, not to mention some of his items, I might have to snag at least one. 1st, Kevin made listeners eager to hear what he would bring the new year with “Wait On It”, then proceeded to break hearts with his follow up EP. After piecing the shattered mess back together, he decided it was time to “Show Love” but mostly for himself on “Self Investment” after ingesting so many years of his life into others who may not have or will ever return the favors.
It took all of these moments of uncertainty in his life to finally “POP” & make a name for himself but not Pop as in the genre cause he is Hip Hop to its very core, as clearly specified on this single’s predecessor “Back In The Game”, which found Kevin flexes his dominance over it, as if he never left because he didn’t, he was just waiting in the wings for his next moment to reinsert himself back into the conversation & now that it’s almost certain, ironic right, how he’s here to stay, he doubles down on his dominance so as to “Double Up”, again, irony at its finest. The record is already sounding like an epic one at best off rip as he brilliantly builds the tension up, whoever produced this deserves their flowers as well!
Kevin only wants to continue to double, hell, maybe even triple everything he’s worked so hard for, why quit when there’s clearly so much more to gain by simply staying? Kevin is taking aim at those who hold a sense of entitlement to what he worked so hard for but refuse to put in any work themselves to attain those same things they feel he owes them. A lot of people fall victim to their traps & it’s not like he wasn’t one of them but today is a new day & you ain’t getting a pennied thought from him, let alone a penny. I personally don’t know why there has to be a such thing as haters waiting patiently to see your downfall but at least in Kevin’s case, they will be waiting forever for something that may never happen.
