Dontaskgen - Notthisagain (Album)
Dontaskgen's 3rd album is here & let me just say before we jump in that although the title is "NOTTHISAGAIN," I was very much thinking in my head upon reading that title, yes, this again. More of his excellent storytelling & we get that right away with the previously released "Strangers." He details the dissolution of a relationship; the way he switches from his rapping to his crooning is magnificent & that guitar solo just adds an extra layer of passion to the record. It's quite sad knowing that someone you once knew has now become a stranger to you; it happens too often; I know I've recently experienced it.
I wonder if he really recorded "Bathroom Stall" in one cause that effect on his vocals, in the beginning, is so great. Also, who else is singing with him? Because she's crushing it as well! Whoever she is, she's headed to wherever he's headed, hopping in his coupe for a little taste of that "Rush" he gives her. It's a pretty x rated song, but where else did you expect them to be headed to & I love how short the record is. He is just zipping through this night; after that, they take a late-night drive through the "cityofhades." & sure, she may be "Somebody's Daughter," but that ain't going to stop him from making her swoon over him; he's got a little more to teach her.
I, too, hate to be alone, even surrounded by people. I still feel like it, so it's nice he feels the same way, "Notthisagain" for sure. I've been in this position too many times before; he's detailing his shortcomings when it came to the relationship, but it's that honesty that is so admirable. The fact that he can hold himself accountable for his own behavior within the relationship, he probably just wasn't as committed as she was, but lately, she's been "Blowing Smoke" his way, so he's blowing it back. He's in his "Brahmin Bag" with this album & rather than parking his car on a lone street & breaking down. He just shuts up & drives; nothing is stopping him from bleeding out his emotions.
