When you’re investing in yourself, the reward can only be greater & that sentiment has never been more evident than on Kevin McGee’s ode to it. If you know me, you know I have an abysmal affinity for introspection; when artists let us into their world for a second. It’s just so inspiring to witness someone who more than deserves to be put on that pedestal be able to come down to a level playing field to bless us with the wisdom he’s gained from simply living life. The soul sample, of course, makes this record all the more uplifting, I for one, have had a lot of trouble learning to invest in myself, so records like this are more than appreciated.

The hook on this record is so infectious; the kids will absolutely love it. He flows like the fountain of youth, splashing listeners with something meaningful to bump into their summertime fun. Even if you aren’t necessarily partying on a beach or anything like that, you deserve to be celebratory for any of your wins. No matter how minuscule we’re all putting in work, we all got bills stacking up while we’re also trying to stack bills, ironic, right? He’s been putting work in for ten years straight & it more than shines brightly throughout this record.

Like me & many of us, he was always a giver & he still very much is, but he’s balancing it out by investing in himself as well. Regardless of what he gives is never enough. You’re going to come across people like that, plenty in your lifetime, but at the end of the day, you know full well in your heart, you’ve always given your all. That first verse hit me right in the feelings. To me, it’s the summation of letting go, moving past it, then & there cause there’s still so much more work to do, he has no time for anyone who’s just going to be holding him back, but that doesn’t mean the love still can’t be from afar. Just do you & the reward will be greater.
