Satara - Don’t Die (Single)
If I’m not mistaken, I first caught wind of Satara on Mia Madden’s “New Found Stranger” single last year. Still, I hadn’t heard from her since, so I’m glad that has now changed with the release of her latest solo piece. Since 2019’s “Down 2 Ride”, her first solo record, yet on “Don’t Die,” she once again showcases her versatility as an artist. Tapping into those operatic melodies in which she’s classically trained in, degree & everything. Honestly, I would’ve assumed that without knowing that cause, her vocal performance here is just that powerful. It’s stripped down so we can really get a glimpse of just what she’s capable of doing with her voice.
Death is inevitable & I feel like this record encapsulates the somber fear we all have for our own mortality. We’re the only creatures on the planet that are aware of it; it’s unfair & comes when you least expect it, sometimes we even push ourselves closer to it faster than we’d like. There’s nothing quite like the pain of losing someone close to you, no matter how many times it happens, you never truly grow numb to it & it’s easy to feel selfish when someone does transition, no matter how it may have occurred, we still wish we could spend more time with them, questioning how much we really were there for them when they still were.
The way she words everything just slowly rips apart your heartstrings, slowly shatters your glass heart to dust & allows the wind the just sweep it away. Some of us are already dead; we just don’t know it. We’re walking around like a hollowed-out shell of who we once were before these unavoidable tragedies killed something within us that we cannot revive. Death is at the end of every road we embark on in this life; our goal is just to avoid it as much as we can, to cling onto the hope that maybe, just maybe, we can grow to be old cause to lose it all at a such an early age is far too tragic in the case of one’s potential. I know life is difficult, but that’s the whole point of it; it’s not supposed to be easy. You’re supposed to stay here with us; your time to shine is coming, trust.
