The Mvng Cmpny - Regiment Drive Tapes (EP)

I never heard of The Mvng Cmpny before this EP, but again, I am thoroughly impressed. This project is music for on the go, the wind blowing at your face as you admire the scenery wherever you may be headed. I’m not too familiar with this artist. Still, it seems like maybe he’s doing all this on his own, just capturing his life experiences in these little poignant bursts of energy. Four more we get on “Regiment Drive Tapes,” not even 10 minutes worth of music but almost 8 minutes worth of your time. It might be the most emotionally fluctuating 8 minutes of your life.

The instrumentation on here reminds me of composers like Flica, with the sweetest lyrics just gliding over them. He’s lost “Somewhere in Austin,” it’s a beautiful dream-pop haze & his vocals are almost buried in the mix in shoegaze-like form, which makes the record all the more powerful & concise; the shortest songs are usually this good. He’s like a nomad; one minute he’s in Austin, then he’s in “Vegas,” whatever happens here is going to stay here. He’s intoxicated & reflecting on something of the past while simultaneously trying to move away from it.

Navigating the “Seas” of life has been anything short of the roughest of waters. I swear these little songs can make you cry oceans; everything about them just screams tearjerker. Still, all that’s left is for us to enjoy these “Thursday Nights,” I, for one, think I have a new anthem for those nights cause I’m usually playing the role of insomniac on those days; Friday ain’t as exciting. Still, overall, this is a gorgeous debut EP that is over way too soon, but that only means the replay value on it is impeccable. I could keep this in a loop for hours throughout my day & I hope we get more of these poignant numbers sometime soon!
