Courtney Noir - Illusion (EP)
It's all an "Illusion" on Courtney Noir's poignant debut, immediately posing a question she already knows the answer to it at least has a good idea as to what it is when she asks her other half if they are really "Down" for her, like 6 feet underground down for her, below the casket even. She's sacrificed a lot of who she is to help build this person up but are they willing to do the same when that other person needs a little reciprocation? How come she was the one always putting in the work only for you to abandon it all cause it was too hard to deal with, it's "Wild" for her to think about it, to ponder the unexpected betrayal, but she's taking it on the chin.
She wants to feel that "Real Love," don't you? Is this your idea of love logical, or is it the love you think someone of her stature is worthy of, or are your efforts better spent elsewhere? What's your definition of love? Hers is plain & straightforward, support; you got to support one another through everything. It's going to get real rough at times but if that person is helping you become a better person, then hold on & never let go but still, be respectful of one another's boundaries & "Privacy." There must also be trust when it comes to real love; I wouldn't let your insecurities control you if you find yourself with a woman like this.
Longing for "Home" as she somberly expresses hiraeth, there's this soft yearning in her voice that almost brings about tears of weepy angels, this house that's been built is no longer that. The foundation is no longer stable, so she just wants to go back home or find a new one. I interpret it as her falling out of love; she's earnest though, no animosity, she's genuinely apologizing & if this person feels any way about it. It is what it is; she only wants what's best for both parties involved, closing off this beautifully crafted debut with a soulful acoustic number with "Carolina," the most non-illusory record on here. Homecoming never sounded this powerful as she is welcomed back with open arms; prepare to have your heartstrings strummed ever so delicately.
