Daisha McBride - Pump Fake (Single)
You best be sticking to your word before Daisha starts calling out people by name. She's not one for the pump faking on her latest & first release of the year, which is a dizzying number. She's speeding down a lonesome, dark road, solely getting it on her own since people can't seem to be who they claim to be. It's why she doesn't do as much talking unless she has something to say & to stand firmly on top of it. This release is a fitting introduction to a new artist for me; I definitely need to fall into her archive after this first impression.
The beat is like a melancholy maze & Daisha is darting throughout it, with no end in sight, no exit strategy, just taking her shot, jabbing a stab in the dark as she infectiously enters listeners' ears with her impeccable songwriting. It's been many people trying to lead her down a garden path they see fit for her. Still, she's a vagabond, traveling this journey all by her loneliness; she doesn't blend in with the flock, nor does she aspire to do so. You can hear the reigning confidence in her voice as she completely dominates the production, portending over it with her battle cries.
Overall, the record is very paranoia-inducing & is beautifully exemplified & executed with the visuals for it, where we find Daisha has just robbed a bank, ducked off not to be seen. She did whatever she had to do to survive, didn't complain & just took what she felt was hers. They thought it wasn't; she felt otherwise &, more importantly, told her plan to not a single soul. She just went out & did it, much to her success; let's just hope she makes it out alive. She surely isn't going out without a fight; you aren't going to deprive her of life's fruit that easily.
