Sækyi - Sunset Demo’s (EP)

This project is like the perfect blend of Dream Pop-like textures & Hip Hop, each of these songs feels just like afterglow. The lyricism throughout is radiant as ever; those strings on “Are We Home? Pt. 1” feels like hiraeth. There’s no place like it; it’s like, all of our comfort zones; I don’t know anybody who doesn’t feel comfortable in the safety of their own homes. This pandemic has undoubtedly caused many of us to grow accustomed to it if we weren’t already, but why stay trapped all day? Why not go out & reflect on life while admiring the sunrise, sunset, the ripples you’re making my skipping rocks across that lake.

It’s like he’s staring out the window of “Apt 706,” watching someone he wishes was up there with him do all the things just described. Eric Penn offers some beautiful vocal work to this number that will surely lull her up there to him. It’s so sensual like he’s making all his desires present while offering to do the same for hers, he’s a “Kink,” he to work out all the ones that’ll make you his, your man is clearly playing too much, only concerned with his own selfish needs, calling on Boris the Lucid for some more mediation after the fact as they ponder on the “Memories” of what once was.

There’s an inherent peace that comes with kicking rocks along on “Sunset Blvd,” he’s clearly doing a lot of reflecting & letting out the pain in his poignant lyrics & melodies. This type of music is intended to heal the soul with a reflection of self in the river, a smooth & easy listen altogether. It’s the perfect record to lie on a hammock too, rock back & forth on a chair on your porch to, admiring the scenery & simple things in life that bring us peace & tranquility & even the last beat. However, it’s more upbeat than the rest, does an excellent job of ending things on a higher note with its triumphant subtlety, “Sunset Demo’s,” which makes me miss the autumnal season.
