A.N.I - Channel One (EP)
SETX native A.N.I. is the latest artist to hit my radar; I hadn't heard anything from him before jumping into this. I'm not really someone who lets expectations, whether high or low, prevent me from giving artists a chance, you'll be surprised more than you are disappointed if you got the patience & I got it, of course, as I said, I was instantly intrigued with A.N.I, he has this confidence about him as he channels his introspection throughout these soulful head nodders, each of which is orchestrated marvelously.
We open with "Cable Trip," which is almost like you tripped over a cable then fell into another dimension as that sample bleeds into that swanging Texas sound so sinuously. He swiftly breezes through his words like wizardry; I love how they fall into that woman's warped singing. It almost sounds like your switching through many stations in one track; the way it switches up towards the end, then we get more of that soulful bounce on "Understudy." He's calling on Cerdarious & Culls to culminate rather than ruminate on what they can't control, it is what it is, but they see it.
A.N.I is just "Surfin" on these records, and we're only on "Channel One." I have a feeling he's prepping a series on his hands; who knows how many channels he's going to flip through. Programming us with this infectious music & already I want more, it's like a cliffhanger almost. You can't wait another week for the next episode but what's good about some is that they have replay value & this sure as hell has plenty of that. He's damn near remote sensing as he's hovering over these atmospheres like a globetrotter, next channel, he's going to be playing pool with the planets, bet that.
