Brionne - Donatella (Album)
Dallas MC Brionne is back with her sophomore effort "Donatella," you already know you're in for some elegant lyricism based on the operatic "Prologue." I can already smell the sage burning along with the most citrusy of pot smoke; her flows are like the little whirls of smoke coming out the tip of the joint. She's got too much on her plate to not rap about that pressure; it's more authentic than what a lot of these other bitches be on in their lifestyle. She's simple, but her razor-sharp lyrics are anything, but she makes sure every bar cuts you, even if just a tidbit. This wisdom she's giving out for free is "Potent," once you inhale it, then exhale it into your real life; you should have peace of mind. If not, then you're simply losing focus & she can't stand to see it.
In Act II, she goes off on an epic diatribe of a soliloquy with "THE RANT," it's amazing what she's doing with her voice here. The snarls & growls were not expected but let you know that she's not here to play; she tears heads off with these bars. Still, Bria Seed comes through to tame the beast on "Bria's Interlude," as well as Preach the Poet letting his flow sinuously in motion on "Young & Lost." Brionne is forever on that journey of finding herself; she's in no rush though frustrating at times. The "Lessons Learned" are what has given her the enlightenment she carries throughout Act III.
The previously released "Jodeci" is that smooth jazz & she just dominates, expressing her vengeance she's soon to serve for those who've done her wrong as well as those who'll do so at any given moment, just waiting for that moment to pounce. Still, she's got her focus on everyone, so I'd be careful about making a move. I doubt you're as meticulous as her pen is; your back her into a corner, and she's going to "Fight Back" & encourages you to do the same. Things are the way they are just caused; all we can do is find ways to maneuver through it all. An outlet like Brionne has found with her penchant for this poignantly potent poetry she crafts so swiftly, resulting in a flawless sophomore effort from a fierce MC & if you still ain't been convinced, then wait till you hear the Busta Rhymes influenced "WOO HA," she's from the Valley of the Hyenas, ain't that right Sway!
