Al-Doms - Rat Race (Video)

Virginia's own Al-Doms is back with his latest single & it also seems to be a new EP as well titled "New Dream," which I'll surely get around to hearing very soon living with after this. Still, we're highlighting another one of the singles from the project cause the storytelling on it is impeccable, as well as the visual treatment, which is another vivid representation of the circumstances some are placed under in life. Al is just trying to do his part in teaching the young man in the video that there's more to life than all of that, weaving a tale of how it can all come crashing down before you know it.

It's a "Rat Race" to the top, to get all the fancy luxuries that some people will literally kill for; the kid had nothing else going for him, probably no father figure, circumstances at home were possibly holding him back from reaching his full potential. Hence, he turns to the streets, whipping up something good, at least to some & hopefully not in his mom's house, then taking it out to the streets where his product has likely sold out quick & in large quantities at that, it's bringing him money, power & respect. He's enjoying the fruits of his labor in this process.

He's aware of the animosity it can bring, so he remains cautious; the guard held up so high, any bullets will whiz right above it like a palisade, only he wasn't going to get away that easy. People are very meticulous & he, unfortunately, was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He let his guard down just enough for them to get him & it's not even like it was an intentional hit. He was literally at a red light, thus very vulnerable in that moment, the perfect time for enemies who've been plotting to take advantage of the situation. It's a sad ending that we've seen too many times before & in no way is it a glorification of that lifestyle. It's the truth about what goes on in these communities; just be lucky if you aren't the one who's been forced to live it.
