Mad1ne - Dark Side Of Jupiter (EP)
Boom Bap enthusiasts, rejoice for the latest from one of the best in that style to do it; Mad1ne & I know many people feel like there’s no place for this style. Still, there’s a home for everything & brilliantly so, he was smart enough to make it super concise cause we all know how people be with album-length. On “Dark Side of Jupiter,” he sucks you into a black hole of meditative consciousness, celestial lyricism strictly catered to those who don’t mind being forced to think.
As stated on the “Intro,” he’s always going to deliver you quality. If not, then his “Lifeline” will cease to exist, instantly taking you back to the Golden Era of Hip Hop where your skills are what really mattered, where the beat wasn’t always banging & more lo-fi & subtle. Still, the rhymes were able to cut through it if you had the skill, which clearly Mad1ne does & if you didn’t know any better, you might even think this is just a remastered version of a classic from that era.
It’s “Exactly” what you’d expect from the Texas lyricist, who’s been putting in work heavily for years. Go back & do your research; it’s a gold mine for fans of this style, I included. Be it the familiarity of the production style on “Stezo” or rhyming about how good he raps on “The Craze.” You’ll see what all the commotion is about & those scratches are just nasty, giving you the sense of a DJ & an MC just killing shit & those who can’t keep up with the heady lyricism, they just “Castaways.”
