Bun B & Le$ - Distant (EP)

Le$ had announced an upcoming EP with him, and Houston legend Bun B was in the works to be released before the end of the year. Le$ shared previews of the studio sessions and fellow collaborator Jorgey who had captured some moments leading up to the release. After Christmas, we had our first view of the cover for the EP that had both Texas emcee in front of the fame Prada store in Marfa, TX, with the title for the project being "Distant," which could have double meanings. It could be how we have been distant in terms of the pandemic crisis we suffered in 2020, or could it be the merging of styles like how Nas & Damien Marley did on their 2010 project. Whether the case is on how they came about with the title, I just know that before you take a listen, understand that history was made here with this EP and the records here are the examples that Texas content is timeless.

The intro could be on how I described the two different styles merging as the intro "Wolf Spider" sounds more like Le$'s repertoire production, and you can hear how the SteakNShrimp emcee glides smoothly through the track. In the middle of the joint, Bun enters a milliant rant, which is stating that he is a certified OG without the accolades under his belt. I didn't think he needed to uncover that since it is well-known, he then follows it with bodying the rest of the beat like the true legend he is. Other singles on the EP like "Live By" & "Distant" keep the same production flow going. While it's incredible to see Bun B diverge into his skill set so well with it, we also get some upbeat tunes that fit both artist's wheelhouse so that you can hear the diversity of years of rap being plugged into the sounds so perfect. Le$ speaks of him being molded by Bun & other legends where their blueprint created him; Bun acknowledges the inspiration but feels like Le$ may have constructed a way of his own to achieve greatness by his own lane that he made. You can hear the years of triumph in this project that I'm glad to have seen it happened. The more you listen, the more you genuinely see the masterpiece that they sought in completing here. I hope this finds its way to be a full-length follow up in the future with more tracks and possibly some features where I would love to hear a Bun B, Benny The Butcher & Le$ track in 2021, but one can only hope for now.

Le$ had already mentioned that he has some other projects in the works, and we are waiting patiently to see those announced in the future. Bun B has been keeping quiet, and maybe he's just living life to the fullest and has no plan for anything soon but let's hope that changes sometime later in the year. We wish both these emcees success and nothing less and hope got everyone to check out this latest EP while sharing it on all social media platforms.
