Mickey Woods Jr. - 40 Days & 40 Nights (Album)
This is the kind of music that can put out a forest fire with ease, soulful intelligence, an introspective reflection of self, biblical, eye opening, heartstring strumming, aspiring, it’s so many things synonymous with great.
The mundane tediousness of hard work & determination “40D40n”, the jazzy cool headedness of “Nomad’s Revenge”, the ultimate ode to reclusiveness “For the Iso”, the early bird gets the worm & there’s no rush to get on with the day on “4.09 Am”, the wood grain gripping of “Pressure” which finds him making the best out of pounds of coal, the sensual intimacy of “fill a void”, he & Breona have undoubtably steamy chemistry, reminders of the past “deja vu”, reaching to god for an olive branch “Remedy”, the lo-fi floaetiness of “Rockin’, Rollin’” (the best track off this record, so beautifully monotone)
He was clearly tired of “The Usual” & in response “relocated a mountain” with this gorgeously melancholic opus, bringing the neo-soul back into Hip Hop, “talks with DJ” alone makes this more Hip Hop than most MC’s albums but this is more than that, it’s poetry in motion.
