Southside Hoodlum - No Ceilings (Video)

Not many rappers hold the tone down like Southside Hoodlum. The ferociously monotone menace has had an exciting year, starting with his “SCAM” single, which made its way onto the major music media syndicate Pitchfork, yet another win for the city as a whole. Since then, he has released a slew of singles, all two-parters; by the way, not many emcees have mastered the art of 2 in 1 track and accompanied by his signature visuals. It always shows various parts of the city to then signing his deal with Empire to then some more singles & even just recently dropping surprise EP of “Lost Files” on YouTube. Just painstakingly teasing fans up to the release of his debut album with Empire, that of which he already teased the cover art & tracklist, which includes a few of these singles he’s released; I’m happy about it because these all need to be on streaming platforms.

Now he’s back with yet another dose of double trouble with “No Ceilings,” yet again delivering that subtle menace & braggadocio that we’ve come to cherish so much from the lean dripping lyricist. Taking us through a day in his life, just mobbing with his people, embracing who he is & what he always represents, then switching gears on the 2nd half. This other is taking us through his night, just cruising around, pondering the significant money moves he’s still bound to make it to put his people & his city on the map where it rightfully deserves to be. Everybody in his corner will be straight as long as they continue to champion him the way they’ve been.

Don’t let Southside’s slumpiness force you to sleep on him cause he is not to play with on the mic. He’s that assassin pointing that silencer at the back of your head that you have no idea is there until it’s too late. He’s as humble as they come, but he’ll never stop speaking his truth. It’s in his damn moniker, for Christ’s sake; he’s a Hoodlum but not just any hoodlum. You can tell he’s only in his element cause he knows he’s after something way more prominent than the struggle he comes from. Hoodlum can’t wait to bring it back full circle once he drops the automatic classic this album will be, no doubt in my mind about that. Thank god for Southside Hoodlum.
