Stilo Jordan - Sleep Talking II (EP)
Stilo Jordan, like many artists this year, has been taking advantage of the opportunity to showcase his skills at a time when fans are craving more & more content to alleviate their woes & ills of this world we’re currently living in. Starting with the first “Sleep Talking” installment, his collaborative EP with Diversid “Growing Pains,” & his debut “We Didn’t Plan This,” which you can read our review of, flawless album. Still, now he’s back with the 2nd installment to “Sleep Talking,” so though we’ve abruptly been wakened, let’s hear what he has to say.
Like the 1st, the introductory track is a reflective look into his psyche, you can feel the pressure weighing him down as he tries to continue carrying the boulders on his shoulders, but he’s not going to crack under it. The solo at the end is a beautiful touch, then bleeding into “Shame On You,” which finds him mopey as ever as he expresses the hurt this person caused him, shame on them for forgetting about him & what he did for you if that’s how it’s going to be then so be it. Still, you are going to realize what you lost.
Stilo just wants to “Be Better” as he lays out his goals & aspirations throughout this monotone piece. He allows the listener to hear everything he’s saying; he’s baring his soul to himself, really. We just so happen to be peeking from around the corner, not even to be seen from his peripherals. Still, he knows we’re watching, so what we’re getting is his authentic self & not a single thing about it is being “Wasted Away,” whether you agree with that or not, he’s keeping it moving.
