Steven King - Missed Calls (Album)

Steven King urges you to pick up the phone & call a brother back on his debut “Missed Calls,” produced entirely, all but for one by IDB. The duo is complementing one another when swerving in & out of each other’s lane on this fast life inspired opus. It finds Steven King going full speed ahead into his introspection & emotional ups & downs, showing no signs of slowing down as he lets his demons take the wheel, even if just for the night.

On the title track, Steven is trying to maintain this lifestyle he’s clearly enjoying while also trying to keep his growing public persona under control. The newfound attention has brought around certain energy he’d rather isolate himself from it; if you weren’t there when he was at his “Low Low,” then you really have zero say-so into how he is choosing to lead his life. He could take it personally, but he’s choosing not to; he’s “Searchin’” for something, someone who’s worth the attention, though it may be too late & won’t be long before he’s behind that wheel, an emotional wreck.

The only way to cope is to overindulge in the things that make you go “ooh” & “ah,” so he calls on Nic Lawrence & Pariah Drew to come “Run It Up.” It is almost like he’s getting more comfortable surrounding himself with more & more attention but still sounding reserved in his delivery, almost a sense of reluctance in his voice. What other choice does he have but to “Keep It P” & keep it moving.

Steven implores you, at your most delicate, to face your problems head-on & to never let up. You don’t need anybody to tell you you’re “Verified” you already are, so spread those wings for all to see you always had them. That’s the type of energy that can possibly attract the right person to your aura & allow you to open yourself up to them, in many ways, “6X” over but as far as commitment, he’s just not “Into” that, probably cause it didn’t go as planned before now.

Nothing left to do now but zip down the highway, pull up to the scene & toss a “Milly” nothing is going to “Block” him from this lifestyle. However, he does take the time to slow down, pull off at the side of the road & reflect. Telling himself to take a “Moment To Myself,” guard his energy & count his blessings & take stock of what’s essential in life, letting us know the notoriety hasn’t stunted him, thus making him forget where he came from & what it took to get here. He keeps himself grounded at the end of the day on this self-reflective, self-defining, hell of a debut, bravo fellas!
