The Crown - The Crown (Album)

Lyricists, that’s what I come here for & The Crown remove the heir from so many thrones across the stratosphere, shattering every embroidered jewel into dust with their fierce bar of massive verbal assaults. The mystique of the cover art reminds me of the “Night Life” EP from Detroit’s Outsidaz clique & as lethal as that project is, so is this; hip-hop nerds rejoice in this onslaught of a masterpiece.

From the “Intro” all the way to the “Outro,” The Crown delivers an endless supply of heavy lyricism that allows you no room to catch your breath as it’s all coming at you, not rapidly but just non stop. They’re relentlessly confrontational with the flow & we all know how much we as human beings can easily cower at first sight of confrontation. The competition won’t be competing anymore once they get sucked into the madness.

Even the production matches the wild, frenetic energy of their dense lyrics. The minimalist retro of the intro, the cloud trap of “The Worst,” the haunting wails of the prowling “The Crown,” the Miami Bass curveball that is “Coochie,” the Lo-Fi of “Cheap Sunglasses.” No matter what they’re firing off over, The Crown came here to rap & rap only, doing the “Shimmy” on the graves of their slain competitors.
