Jidé - whoisjide (Album)
Every artist should have one album that ultimately defines who they are & on Jidé’s debut; he does just that. A smart move to kick your album career off, especially when it’s as soulfully & powerfully meditative as much as this reflective effort is & the calm vulnerability is perfectly exemplified on the simplistic cover. Even the tiger is at peace as he’s serenading.
You fucking with somebody who’s as real as they get, as he claims on what I assume is his birth date, he so badly wants her to believe in him cause he’s always going to keep it a hunnid. Still going to stay marching to the beat of his own drum on “How I Move,” which means he’s out here putting in so much work that he can’t always be there, be bound to just a relationship as if that’s the only thing that defines him on “Believe Me,” he needs a bad bitch by his side to hold him down & to understand that, it’s not personal whenever he has to leave to make his living, things take time, but he needs your faith in him more than ever.
So “Whoisjide” after hearing this, he’s a worldly character, he’s about all the finer things in life because he works so hard to be able to relish in the fruits of his labor, he’s not concerned with how you view it, this is his life, not yours. Hence, he’s the one calling the shots if you can’t take charge of your life as he does & turn around to pretend as you know him like that. You’ll get “Butterflies” in your tummy to understand your critical depiction of him is false, so who is he then? He’s someone who moves on his own accord, does whatever the hell he wants to.
