Phree Bass Sampulz - The American Weigh (EP)

Probably the only duo whose name perfectly matches what their music sounds like in rap nature. When the highly heralded, lyrically magnificent Baby Aztro marries his insightful lyrics atop the soulful boom-bap tones of Mikey Strange, they can do no wrong. They trudge through like walking in wet sand, especially on the opener “Robocop,” finding him “spitting on a sick flip like a tumbling gag,” that’s a super dense bar & this EP is full of them, full of lines for the word nerds like me to have a ball dissecting.

“I stayed ten toes down when they was lifting the rug” like c’mon, man, it’s just not fair how seamlessly effortless he seems to be coming up with some of these lines. As a writer myself, it’s inspiring & also discouraging at the same time. Still, overall, it’s admirable that he can even think of some of these lines; he’s one of those MC’s who has no filler, every line has to hit, or it isn’t worth spitting & what’s not to respect about that?

Hopefully, this EP is only a slight indication of what to come & what an indication it is. I’m sure everyone is going to have a fun time not only picking apart these bars but figuring where these samples can form on top of undoubtedly nodding your head relentlessly. Racking your brain trying to make sense of everything coming at you, but MC’s like Aztro is why you have the options to rewind, replay & revisit once enough time has passed.
