The Weekly Dip 7/12/24
Don't count us out. A lot of things have come up in our personal lives that have sidetracked us a little, but we are back and feeling motivated. And what’s a perfect way of showing our appreciation for our return? A new set of releases for our Weekly Dip for y’all to enjoy for the weekend. We also have some upcoming surprises and shows that we’ll be at, and we are starting up an interview series as well that’s going to be fun, but more on that real soon.
Los Kemet - Southern Gangsta Muzik (SGM) (Single)
Towards the end of June, Los Kemet released his latest joint titled “Southern Gangsta Muzik (SGM),” doubling down on his down-south roots, especially when he rapped in the chorus. This style is the fueling essence of his virtuous craft and the inspiration behind his come-up, leading to his ongoing success. Los Kemet doesn’t create typical rap tunes; he puts himself on display through his music, sharing his personal experiences of standing on business and grinding through the obstacles in his journey. He emphasizes not being swayed by false promises and idols and staying true to his authenticity. The genre he labels his music has been described as deeply profound, with rappers like Project Pat and UGK being the sound’s innovators. Now, Los Kemet finds himself in a similar spotlight, bringing this unique style back to where it belongs. Braggadocios with cunning lyrics sliding like candy paint, Los Kemet perfects the audio to be as clean as possible. He exacts his vision for the visual with Thomas G, a creative known for stepping outside the box with his directional style, elevating the viewing experience to match the lyrical expression painted perfectly.
Erykah Officer - Unconditional Love (Single)
With fans still in awe of her 2023 project “Ery’s Diary,” Erykah Officer is back with something new to shower us with in her latest ballad titled “Unconditional Love.” The release also comes with a visual treatment that provides deeper insight into the track’s significant message: that love will always remain, whether through hardship or doubt, and it will conquer all. With Erykah opening the record with her heavenly vocals, she assures her love interest right out of the gate that whatever the reason for them to depart from each other or find happiness elsewhere, her heart will remain open to their love. No judgment will follow; she confesses that her love will be there no matter the circumstances. The light she adores for them will remain lit when needed. The visual proves her words true, showing Erykah packing and moving out of their life, yet the essence they created still has her presence available when needed. She parades around in a lovely attire that matches her beauty perfectly, adding depth to her heartfelt experience.
Christian James - Wings (Single)
All praise to Bobby Stella, who suggested we get hip to Christian James earlier in the week before other outlets do. I'm glad to have that heads-up since the first few seconds of the preview of his upcoming “Wings” video left an impressionable mark on us. As soon as the full release surfaced, we absorbed the remaining minutes and worked on adding it to the site to push his content to our viewership, who we know will enjoy the drop. The release, directed by one of our favorite creatives, Thomas G, showcases Christian through his lens, capturing his life story as he vents about his sacrifices, fears, aspirations, and worries. The single is more than just a rap song; Christian James takes an experimental approach to the track, offering something unexpected. Instead of changing the tone, he builds anticipation for the remainder of the release, showcasing more of his creativity, which has worked wonders in creating a new set of fans on this side, which I’m sure more will be gaining within the next few days.
Grace Sorensen - Can’t Kiss and Forget (Single)
On the second day of July, we were gifted a new release from Grace Sorensen titled “Can’t Kiss and Forget,” where her angelic vocals soared through the heavens to unravel a tale of remembrance that will pluck at heartstrings. Grace begins to sing about a love interest appearing in her dreams, with the touch and feeling almost lucid. This experience resurfaces intense emotional flares from a once-whole relationship that has now become a learning experience for her. It could've been worse when she felt she had let you take the easy way out. It was enough to get you past her for the sake of her sanity. Still, even with this pain, she can't forget the intimacy, which hurts to remember. She prays the truth didn't affect her faith. She could have caused enough damage to burn the bridge forever but instead left a slim glimpse of hope, allowing her to find happiness again. The production builds perfectly behind her vocals, leaving an impressionable sense of essence that helps conclude the release on such a lovely note.
Melotonics (Vel Nine + 4th Beats) - Perdoname (Single)
The collaborative efforts of Vel Nine and producer 4th Beats as Melotonics return after seven years since their 2016 self-titled project debut, thrilling fans of the hip-hop sound. This satisfying comeback titled “Perdoname” gave fans an audio and visual release. The video features Vel Nine in a classic cinematic setting, portraying Cupid on a cloud and a mermaid inside a shell with all looks displaying her stunning aura and beauty, captivating viewers in every scene. While getting lost in her dreamy appearance is easy, Vel Nine sparks the release with an insightful essence, springing ahead with her glorious raps in prominent fashion. She perfects her lyrics as cunning and beautiful as her presence. The production only enhances her creativity, allowing her to be fearless with her aggression. This shift in focus complements the audience's recognition of her talents, showcasing her as vicious and deadly.
The Nait Sirk & Lil Terrestrial - Comeback (Single)
Without a moment to think, The Nait Sirk & Lil Terrestrial's latest record, “Comeback,” ignites with an eminent rap scheme and vigorous production that floats them effortlessly throughout the track. Their craft's fitted set of positivity stuns us from beginning to end, with them soldiering down the line with an impressive upbeat rhythm. "Comeback" never slows down in pace, but instead, it continually builds on their collaborative endeavor, showcasing their synergy and relentless efforts. While the track's conclusion is the only moment where the initial intensity fades, the production does a splendid job of gracefully walking them out, ensuring a smooth and satisfying finish.
