The Weekly Dip 11/4/22
We’ve had to sail across some very rough waters to start off this new month but fret not, we at Wavez are still here to supply listeners with only the best music moving forward. Our first Dip of the month is a doozy so, don’t jump ship now, just go with the flow!
Jake&Papa - Promise (Video)
I “Promise”, I will never stop being incessant about shutting down the R&B is dead argument, I’ve seen it’s still very much prevalent but they clearly ain’t keeping their finger on the pulse of what’s currently going on within the genre. Los Angeles is home to many talented individuals but with this duo’s latest, I’d say Jake&Papa are sure to break down barriers with their honest & earnest style of R&B. The guys are making promises to their lovers that they actually know they can keep. It’s truly all you can ask of a man, to keep his word. Don’t just tell her these things cause you know she wants to hear it, do the work & let your actions show you actually care cause if you don’t, then that’s how words just get in the way. Can you prove that you’re not like these other men? They sure can. The different aesthetics throughout these visuals also showcase how freeing their music is. If there’s one thing to walk away from with this video & record, it’s to vibrate higher, especially in terms of your romantic life.
Shaylin B - Fifty Fifty (Video)
4 singles deep & already, Shaylin has become one of the more exciting acts to emerge from out the R&B universe. On her latest, she’s calling for equality within her relationship. She’s her own boss, therefore, she’s independent & don’t really got the time to be babysitting anybody looking to run their silly little games on her emotionally. She can’t be the only one putting forth any sort of effort in the relationship. Eventually, after carrying your own weight, as well as your partners baggage after a while, can be very taxing. As long as you’re willing to go half & half on this relationship, it’ll be worth her time & worth your while. Y’all still saying R&B is dead? Yeah, Shaylin thought not.
Young Quicks - EPMD Business (Video)
Love seeing the resurgence of Latinos in Hip Hop & when you got a legend like Erick Sermon explaining how serious you are when it comes to lyricism, that’s not an opinion you need to take lightly. Young Quicks is a bilingual bar heavy MC who’s oh so serious about leaving his stamp on this game as he stomps throughout this classic production. He’s “Strictly Snappin’ Necks” on this one, whether he’s hands on or no cause many will be turning their heads with the quickness to witness his God tier lyricism. How seamlessly he’s able to switch between languages is impressive & none of the bars are just there to fill up space, every line is punch after punch upside the heads of listeners & so called competitors alike. This is just light work though cause he got some new new with his idol, Erick Sermon dropping very soon so keep those peepers peeled for that!
Joule$ - Demon Time (Video)
Joule$ has some demons to conjure up on his latest ominous number “Demon Time”. As you can expect with a title like that, he’s on nothing but fuck shit so I would hate to be caught in the crosshairs of his spiritual battle with himself. He’s hell bent for leather as he races through this beat, detailing his reckless behavior along the way whilst endangering the lives of anybody who feels the need to try to test him. Best believe he’s gonna apply that pressure. It’s nothing for him to revert back to old tactics, just in case they may have forgotten that he really comes from that life. The multiple flow switches throughout this record will cause angels to not only weep but fall from grace. Listener’s eyes will be left glowing like joule$ (jewels) from hell after witnessing this.
Twisted Insane feat. Punchline 3nt - Moonlight (Video)
Halloween is never over when it comes to one of the Godfathers of this horrocore style of Hip Hop. Twisted Insane continues to offer his sickening flow over the darkest of trap beats, his lyricism just looming over the beat like a portentous dark rain cloud. On “Moonlight”, he calls upon Punchline 3nt to match his fast flow & that he does with full speed. This chopper style of rhyming goes far too unappreciated & it’s mainly cause, some of these MC’s who do so, aren’t really saying much but not with these guys & certainly not with Twisted, who’s been doing it for years. I wouldn’t wanna be caught alone under the moonlight when a motherfucker like that is lurking around, looking to strike down his next victim. It’s always a nightmare he leaves his listeners trapped in whenever he drops.
Sleepy Loco - Spaceship From Memphis (Video)
This remind me of that old school Triple Six shit mixed in with a little SpaceGhostPurp. OG Sleepy Loco came through to slump listeners out with his viscous flow, dripping out that styrofoam like molasses. He’s leveled up over these past few years, only further inching up that incline with every record. The entire tracks is a mind warping listen, filled with lyricism intended to uplift the spirit. It’s almost like he abducted you into his Memphis spaceship & y’all are now zipping through galaxy as you watch him play pool with the planets & break through the stratosphere. The psychedelic feels of this record, as well as his deeply captivating voice is enough to leave you in a transitional state of mind as he elevates far past the stars.
Vinnie Paz - Faith Healer (Video)
Vinnie Paz is literally a godsend but don’t get it twisted, if you try to step to him, you’re gonna feel the wrath of Allah bestowed down upon you. The second single off his upcoming album only further ensures that, both lyrically & musically, we’re about to be “Tortured In the Name of God’s Unconditional Love”. I also love how the title of that is long, takes me back to that first Jedi Mind Tricks album. Vinnie has always mixed that raw, gritty street violence with social commentary & lyrics that’ll open the third eye with the conspiracy theories he too slides within all of that. Personally speaking, I love Vinnie’s voice even more now cause it just adds so much to the overall rawness of his records with his gravely flow. Vinnie has also always kept up with the times too, with his use of various slang throughout this brutal record. These Philly boys are just built different the way they eat beats up like “Cheesesteaks”.
