The Weekly Dip 1/7/22
New year but the dip has the same goal: bringing y’all the new dope content for your weekend. The weather is now getting colder especially here in Texas so we don’t recommend taking a swim for the time being so instead keep these tunes and visual playing by the fire but continue rocking with the WAVEZ. We have a lot in store for 2022 but this is the start to bring back the series you’ve come to be fond of seeing every Friday.
The Musalini & 9th Wonder - Paid In Full (Video)
During the week, The Musalini announced that a collaborative album between himself & 9th Wonder titled “The Don & Eye” would be dropping on January 10th with Planet Asia, 38 Spesh, Izzy Hott, Ice Lord, King Draft & Swank featured on the 11-track release to ring in the new year with another promising project on his catalog. To help promote the announcement, The Musalini decided to drop a visual to one of the tracks off the project titled “Paid In Full.” It showcases Mus in the cut with a dime piece by his side, whose curvaceous figure is observant in the viewing background. At the same time, the illustrious raps of The Musalini are delivered at a rapid pace to help build the momentum of exuberance. The smooth wordsmith ability he possesses is one of the most lethal in the rap game & the timeless art he’s dropped previously to now shows perfect examples of it. If this latest release is any indication of what to expect on this upcoming album, then best believe we’re all hands on deck to support and listen when it drops.
Sneeze - Family Drama (Video)
Yesterday afternoon while browsing through Twitter on my lunch break, I came across a visual that had dropped days before from Richmond, VA artist Sneeze titled “Family Drama.” The tweet showcasing the video had intrigued me since it made the drop feel like a movie release and of course, being that I was unfamiliar with his content had my curiosity skyrocketed which once I got to view it, it was well worth being late back to lunch to make sure our viewership was well aware of his artistry. He’s the shining example of don’t judge a book by its cover since, at first glance, you wouldn’t believe his rhyming to be as prestigious as it is. His flow is probably one of the most elite & eccentric out right now & it's perfectly wrapped up and gifted here for new listeners to enjoy. The video plays a comical view of him in the kitchen cooking, which could be looked at first as him boiling water to cook up crack in the pot, but instead, it’s him heating milk to enjoy with his cookies that are in the oven below. The video gets wilder the more you watch, which I won’t spoil it since I want viewers to have a proper introduction as I did. It’s no secret that I became an instant fan of his off rip, and we plan to have more of his music appear on the site moving forward. Please get familiar with Sneeze quick cause he’s something special to support
Rxalu Loaded - Hooper Dreams (Video)
Letting off one more release before we say goodbye to 2021 is Rxalu Loaded, who dropped a new visual titled “Hooper Dreams” with Dan2TheL behind the lens that’s expanding his reach beyond a different Plato away from his peers in the city. The video has been seeing a wild set of views where it currently sits at 106K & counting with three weeks only under its belt. The vicious intensity of Rxalu’s ability to let off the choppa that is his flow is far more superior in this drop than we’ve seen before. He still makes light to his hustling ways while still menacing around the production with bars that can kill and keep your favorite artists away from him when he's feasting. The Sewer Babg emcee is diabolical with the bars, and I’m sure this release is only the beginning until he set off a whole new feeding frenzy for 2022. The video is also followed with an announcement that his newly named project “Fully Loaded” is coming soon, which I’m sure later in the new year we’ll be seeing more things surface for it, but right now we’re just living it up to see more content from him appear on our radar.
Meka Jackson - White Li(n)es Monologue (Video)
One of the most hardworking & eccentric creatives on planet earth is Meka Jackson. You name it, and he’s done it; he’s the sole owner of Dallas venue Creators Don’t Die that deserves its own article to spotlight the accomplishments he’s done to make it a stomping ground for upcoming artists and prominent figures in the music scene. You’ve probably also seen him around at some of the sold-out events curated by eminent promoters, Aeronotiqz throughout the 2021 year. Even with all this hard work going on, plus the new endeavors he’s working on, he still had time to release some new music which brings us to his latest visual titled “White Li(n)es Monologue.” He describes it as being the allegory for the lures & horrors of drug addiction which can be heard in the first lines of the record. He’s an artist known to be vocal about the world's harsh realities and to speak the truth no matter how many will hide behind it. The video itself speaks volumes behind the intensity & high-powered reign of Meka’s wordplays. While most will take a look and only admire the curvaceous women in the video, they won’t hear the message behind the art being spilled out in such a robust manner. That’s the crazy cycle his music has with being outside of the box and delivered in this unconventional way. We applaud his creativity and know that many will connect to the release and hope to see more music from him surface later in the year, but we’re never let down when it comes to Meka, so we’ll wait patiently for his next surprise.
Los - Faith Driven (Video)
Days after the release of his magnum opus “My Love Is Crack,” Los delivers a visual treatment to his distinguished record “Faith Driven” with QNTM behind the lens to bring one of the most defying records off the project to life. The immaculate effort on this track is insane, from building the ominous looks to the first portion of the video then having QNTM show off his grandeur transition to Los verse from “Wagwan” in the middle of the video is incredible. Anchoring the rest of the video is the astonishing sounds of the outro to “Faith Driven” that you think god herself was filming and making a featured cameo in the video. The direction is captured beautifully to tell the tale of the driven arc in the track and is highly regarded as being one of the first few videos of the year to deserve praise for its ability to go deep beyond the grain.
AJ Bray - Residue (Video)
After dropping off his magnum opus that is the 2nd installment of his “Love Abuse” series, Bray is back on his bullshit to remind anybody who may have forgotten his MC skills, that these skills of his are to continue lingering around like “Residue”. His wit remains unmatched, who knew his niece was a better trapper than most of these lames, I guess it simply runs in the family to be this dope. Whenever he’s going in like it’s raining over these type beats, his lines just keep coming at you, one after another so if you’re not careful, a lot of these one liners can whiz right by you like the bullets they are. Also, you already know it’s one of them ones if Bray is in front of one of these gas stations & it’s nice to see him utilize the visuals talents of someone other than Trent & still capture that magic, hopefully we see more visuals from Dxvxrxll in the near future!
Big Thief - No Reason / Spud Infinity (Single)
In preparation for their upcoming February release of their new double album “Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You”, slated to he released under one of the best labels there is, 4AD, Big Thief has been slowly churning out more of those poignant little numbers, all of which are now compiled into their latest two singles as a full EP! One of their best songs to date is the 1st of these two titled “No Reason” which is a poignant folk song that highlights the meaninglessness of life, it’s a bit bittersweet but elating nonetheless. “Spud Infinity” continues the folksiness of all the remaining records but has this earnest feel to its catchiness, it’s a quirky final single to get us pumped up for the rest of the album! Down below is the pre-order link, where you’ll receive all the singles thus far upon ordering, it’s worth it, trust me!
Best Coast - Leading (Single)
First of all, if you’re gonna have a kitty cat on your single cover, I’m already pressing play without hesitation as if that wasn’t already the case being that, these are legends were speaking on. Best Coast has been rocking out for quite some time now & show no signs of slowing down on their latest crunching single “Leading”. To me, they’re speaking on leading people on & wanting to put an end to that for both parties involved. This relationship clearly isn’t working out for a multitude of reasons, unnecessary expectations which only lead to resentment later down the road & I can attest to that. Don’t lead anybody on, just rip the bandage off cause it’s gonna hurt either way but you need to do what’s best for yourself & that’s the message you should take away from this song.
