The Weekly Dip 10/1

Swimming in the fall? You bet your ass we’re taking a dip in this marvelous weather we’ve been having, well, somewhat marvelous. We at the Wavez are dedicated to giving you the best of the best we’ve come across every given week & to be honest, we have to break it down to 8 cause there’s just too much to cover but we’re certain that we have another 8 that’ll surely hold you down until the next batch. Til then though, stop lightly skimming your toes across the water & jump in!

King Iso, Snake Lucci, Tech N9ne - Made Me Crazy

When it comes to advocating for mental health, King Iso is at the hilt of that within this industry, regardless if not many are familiar with the man, who’s been putting in work for years & that’s just before signing to Tech N9ne’s Strange Music imprint. The man was also actually mentally institutionalized so he really is crazy, for lack of a better term, he truly is as humble as can be but like anybody, when pushed enough, they can snap, as he does on here. This is music for all the real psychos, just in time for spooky season, with its Metal esque reigning darkness sounding atrabilious as ever, as each MC deliver some of the most hardcore verses you’ll hear this year.

Jmac the Dragon - Level Up (EP)

Whatever your console of choice, mine personally is the Nintendo 64, I’d bust it out if I were you upon jumping into the Dragon & Badger’s new EP & on top of that, you’re gonna wanna bring your A Game cause both are sparring in their respective fields. Opening with the lead single “Solid”, JMAC may come off like a humble dude but he’ll gladly cause the supposed “solid” to melt like feta cheese over tortilla chips, which is the perfect segway/combination for the “Hot Spaghetti” he’s serving his sons on the follow up record. Badger’s production has this modernist trap feel to it but it’s the spirit of the Dragon that adds a more lyrical edge to the style as he blends effortlessly into the record, with Dex 1 assisting him on defeating foes. Breathing hot fire on “Next Lvl”, the Dragon is Godzilla in the flesh, sorry Eminem, your days are numbered, I kid but the man is a gargantuan when he’s stomping all throughout the stomping grounds, destroying any & everything in his path & all that’s left in the end are “Remains” of those who thought it was a smart move to go against such worthy opponents. My advice, especially if you heeded nothing of what was said throughout this listen, I’d level up before you play this game with them.

Maez301, Infinite E - Ecstasy

A lot of technicians had a problem with Maez upon his signing to Tech N9ne’s Strange Music imprint but if you know anything about Tech N9ne, it shouldn’t be no surprise he signed the kid, especially after this vibe of a record, mainly due to the content. If you are not in the know, back in the day, Tech was taking ecstasy heavily, even once overdosed after taking 15 pills in one night so the fact that his artist has created this song, surely reminds him of those olden days of his, after all, he recently stated his healthy body still craves molly, though he’s been clean for sometime. Maez calls upon his frequent collaborator Infinite E for yet another great record to add to add to their ever growing collaboration list & is honestly the best musically out of them all.

Bryce Vine, lovelytheband - Miss You a Little

I swear, there’s just so much music that’s been coming my way that keeps reminding me of some personal things I’m still trying to overcome but at least Bryce’s record here has a more uplifting spirit to it, though the content is still bittersweet. Clearly the relationship was no longer working & that’s usually how it goes, you fall in love quickly when the both of you are still fairly innocent & then you get so comfortable that you both begin to ignore all the red flags that keep blatantly presenting themselves until the honeymoon phase is over & it all comes spilling out in a not so healthy way or in a way that scares the other away. But sure, no one’s doubting how people like me & him feel but do we really miss these people or are we just bored & in need of that sense of comfortability we once felt with this person?

Chelsea Cutler - Devil On My Shoulder

The month of October is already off to a great start & Chelsea Cutler has some poignancy to share about her struggles within herself. I believe we all have that little Devil on our shoulders who’s just so goddamn loud that our better angels are essentially silenced by the devil’s reigning influence on us. I don’t honestly understand why we insist on inflicting pain onto ourselves but those voices that speak to us can be pretty convincing & it isn’t til after we’ve pushed or scared everybody we care about away that we begin to regret how we acted in certain situations. I know for a fact, it’s hell for me to deal with what I deal with mentally & emotionally so to know that other people like Chelsea feel the same but are able to weave those feelings into a powerful ballad is greatly appreciated.

Lowertown - Seaface

A “Seaface” is apparently a salty person & it does seem like the individual she’s speaking to is pretty upset with the way she’s going about things, mainly cause they can’t find a way to gain control over their situation. This person is probably begging her for empathy that she no longer has after so long of giving them chance after chance so can you really blame her for feeling how she feels. That unfortunately is something I directly relate to so once again, another record reminding me of something I’ve yet to move past but it is interesting to think about things from the other person’s perspective within the relationship & understand how your words & actions have affected them.

Andy Mineo, Lecrae - Been About It

Who said Christians can’t turn up like everybody else? Lecrae has been showing us for quite some time that he can make banger records as good as anybody else who you’d give bigger praise to but he’s not to be toyed with once that power of Christ is coursing through his veins. Andy Mineo & Lecrae sound so good over this “Thot Shit” esque production but they ain’t on some ratchet shit, they’re on some positive shit, Lecrae even telling a tale about being pulled over by cops & things going rather smoothly than I’m sure he initially intended. The fact being that, both gentlemen have remained solid within their faith & in return, God has been looking out for the both of them & will only continue to do so as they continue to lead a righteous life.

PRINCESSBRI - Never Be the Same

This is far from that pop punk revival that’s been flooding it’s way into my ears a lot lately, this is pure Rock N Roll PRINCESSBRI is supplying us with her, capitalizing on a lot of what we heard on her previous sophomore effort “Sick of it All”. I wouldn’t be surprised if I heard this record skimming through radio, landing on 99.5 Kiss, it’s more than worthy of being a huge FM radio hit, reminding me of when bands like Flyleaf were dominating shit within the Rock community. PRINCESSBRI is dealing with a lot after being built up only to be torn back down, out of nowhere at that & yet, when she decided to fight back, this person wonders why she isn’t the same romanticized or idealized image they had of her in their head, this is all your doing & pretty soon, roles shall be reversed.
