Lyric Michelle - BLK BRD, Vol. 1 (EP)

It’s always a blessing to be up at the right time, especially in the right place, as yesterday night, I noticed a tweet from Houston artist Lyric Michelle who shared a snippet of a previously-released freestyle and asked where her promotion was at? Instead of promoting that white girl lip-syncing a Lil Baby verse, I would much instead support a female lyricist from the great state of Texas, which is precisely what I’m doing here today. Unfortunately, the said video she shared in the tweet was released back in September of last year, so I wanted to make sure we had something new and fresh to showcase & introduce to our viewership. To our surprise, we had that exact opportunity. Last week, Lyric had dropped a two-track EP titled “BLK BRD, Vol. 1” that perfectly showcased her unique ability to be a wild card in rap like ODB, where I would put all my chips down to see her secure a monstrous record for the masses to align with praise and support which J can surely see it happen for both these tracks here.

When it comes to the intro track “Open Up More,” it starts with the slow melody being built up by the production, and once Lyric starts loading on her soft vocal tone, it quickly changes up in pitch and does that for a while which really draws you into the single and begin seeing the complexity of her essence begin to show. It channels a bit of Kendrick’s aesthetic when he changes up the tone a bit, yet with Lyric’s version, it feel almost like a tug of war with personality while speaking on the subject of venting about relationship matters. It’s flooding with so much thought process in the track but man, if it doesn’t showcase how godly her artistry is to tackle a track with so much creativity that it speaks in prestigious volume. Her second record, “.Wav,” ain’t as outside the box as its predecessor but it’s still one stone-cold release that displays her music to be utopian to the touch. Dark themes hover over her lyrics when speaking on the corruptions of everyday issues, things that need to be addressed more, and while she’s the voice of a leader in speaking their thoughts she has a more direct response with violent intention at the helm of her verse. It’s a powerful sentiment that does go beyond deep of being titled as average rapping but something on different plato that conscience minds will indeed wrap around their mind to when indulging in a listening experience of these two tracks.

Best believe I will keep Lyric Michelle close on our radar for future releases; we highly recommend getting started getting familiar with her catalog quickly, and this is the best place to start by checking out her latest EP here while sharing it around on all social media avenues.
