Qwest - 4 Tha Yearnerz Pack (EP)

Fret not ladies, Jonny Qwest is back with 3 numbers for sure to hold you over while you wait on your boyfriend to stop being a lame. Opening up with the Cxmp assisted “6ixteen”, he travels back to his adolescent years to reminisce on what it was like being a young man in love. It’s kinda Deja vu for him to still be dealing with women who can’t seem to be anything other than indecisive, it’s like they’re still teenagers figuring this love thing out of treating it like it’s some sort of game. Unfortunately some people never get out of that mindstate. This is easily one of Qwest’s best tracks, for that hook alone but Cxmp really steals the show on this one, with a voice that’s unforgettable, so much so that I think the message is now stuck in shorty’s head, to stay the fuck from around them if that’s what she’s on.

Qwest has far moved on from that though, setting the mood right for his next shawty with some “Weed and Lotion”, a sure fire combination to get her hot & bothered. I heard weed makes women horny, not sure how much validity there is to that but I think it’s safe to say she’s dropping her guard & draws to the soothing sounds of this record & the appearance of one of the most underrated MC’s I’ve ever heard, Cush with a C, was a brilliant way to drive the point of this record home. It became gas once he showed up on the record. Speaking of guest appearances, one of the main things I’ve always appreciated about Qwest, is how he always shares his platform. He does his thing on these records but has no problem letting these other artists shine brighter on them, such is the case with 98Priest performance here, it’s always exciting to hear from him, as he’s been on a bit of a silent tear in recent months with his guest verses & “High Rollers” is just another fine example of that, real spillage on that verse.

All in all, this is a fairly decent appetizer of what Qwest has in store for us this year. If you’re looking for something to meditate to, I’d definitely tap in with him, as he’s kinda at the pinnacle of this Lo-Fi sound. You can argue that all of his music is a bit formulaic but it works for his smooth, playalistic voice & as far as songwriting goes, he only seems to get more & more sharper with it.
