Pat Ron & Coach Tev - This Is Not A Part II (EP)
After their monstrous hit “CNN” delivered at the top of the new year, the continued streak of collaborations we have already seen from Coach Tev & Pat Ron, including their first collab EP “Shut Up & Rap,” were on the verge of awakening another release in their prominent catalog where not long after it was announced they decided to join forces once again and come together like Ultron for their second collaborative EP titled “This Is Not a Part II.” The holy grail is shown again but tipped over to show the heap of herbs inside the cup, where I’m sure it’ll get broken and rolled in the next scene. The ounce of smoke breathing comes from the two veteran lyricists continuing to run laps around your favorite artists in supreme strength and grandeur vibes.
The project opens up with the explosive sound of “CNN,” which has been mentioned by the duo to be one of the greatest songs of 2024 so far. I’m liable to agree with that statement since they let the ethereal production walk them in, where they spit lyrically in a flawless manner, already setting the bar high past the clouds, almost knocking on heaven’s doors. The following record, “Pat In All Black,” is timid in terms of production, with a cycle of drums rallied in motion. It might sound like it’s the most tedious part of the project. Still, it’s one of the most fearful productions since it creeps in this dark, eerie effect that when both emcee hop on to shine in the limelight of their verses, it brings this sudden chill down the back of your spine hearing them light up the atmosphere with their resilient wit and clutch wordplays in the mix. Coach Tev is on another level with the raps; it’s impressive to hear him showcasing a unique blend of comedic and prestigious elements in his verses, highlighting his distinct contribution to the art of rhyming. He makes a strong case for being one of the best in the league regarding the lyrical range and never falling off.
“Said she a foodie. I took her to Rudy’s. It went to her booty just like Vivica Fox.” - Coach Tev
Pat Ron viciously anchors the single with cunning, vivid imagery to his rhymes; the epic resemblances that shine in his thought process to construct these creative lines match perfectly with his collaboration mate that you can surely see while the work they produced comes gifted and praised every single time. Slanging audio dope in a high-class manner with witty lyrics, both emcees don’t lose sight of the importance of showcasing their talents, whether it be on the potent surge of “Ven Aqui” or the slick sounds of “Bread & Butter,” Coach Tev & Pat Ron devote a sensational amount of their signature mystic in the records, planning off each’s verse with a high level of friendly competitiveness in the mix.
“Fuck ya top list. I’m on top b***h in my city, the coldest.” - Pat Ron
I couldn’t end the review without mentioning “Zac Efron” and not the actor but the title of one of the most iconic highlights of the project, which sees both artists in a kickback mood deliberately making this shit look way too easy. The flow is immaculate, and it sounds like a typical day for the two; rhymes turn into gold, and the lyrics drop gems in eminent nature. They glide through the record with ease, spitting some of the most vicious bars that do not get overlooked and keep the pressure in motion that both Tev & Pat are on the board for 2024 with no indication to be removed anytime soon.
In February, the project received recognition and praise from existing listeners and new fans. It is looking to double the success in March since both emcees will be looking to perform some of the records at this year’s SXSW music festival. I recommend you attend those performances, including Pat Ron’s upcoming tour, with dates in San Antonio, New Orleans & Austin. Get your tickets quickly and be sure to keep this EP in steady rotation, and you won’t have a bad day
