Alwa Gordon - Cook Out (Video)
I was at the right place at the right time again; earlier in the day, I was broadening through Twitter when I came across an article that KRS-One was explaining that the new generation of rappers were traitors to the hip-hop culture, which I found to be not true, the times have changed significantly and so has the artistry. At the same time, most sounds have been revolutionized to fit the cultural climate, but I digress because this isn’t here for me to preach my opinions but to introduce you to a new artist who proves that point. The comment below the article piece showcased the latest drop from Santa Cruz emcee Alwa Gordon, where he’s made a new fan out of Texas in his latest release titled “Cookout.” The record includes a heart-to-heart performance from Alwa, who collides with his rap career and personal gain, seeing his time away from tours and performance to be home where his presence matters the most.
It’s an emotional tale that most rappers leave out of their pen, but Alwa delivers this message as a venting session. He could leave bodies buried on the concrete from the bars he’s supplying but rather being alive to raise his seed every day to know that he’s trying. He’s already been on the road without a deal or flight, seeing money flowing like the ocean while he’s setting up the motion. Boastfully speaking in volumes of how his rap skills hold to his opposition, they live gangsta life stories in their raps and never touch a gun; he lived through real-life obstacles and speaks from the heart with perseverance. He’s had his days fighting vices but nothing that he’s losing; time after time, he’s seen days go bad from worse, but these days have been better at keeping a steady hand on what he was T’s to accomplish and what’s become more important to him. I was sold instantly by his immaculate conception of picking off this heavenly beat with ease, and the more you can get in touch with the words, the more you know he’s speaking the truth and got to appreciate the level of significant substance he brings on out.
I was researching his catalog after reviewing the release, and it looks like this is a normal thing for him to be dropping off releases every month or so. We’ll be keeping him close on our radar for future releases, and we hope to gain him some more attention out here in Texas. We highly recommend you get introduced to Alwa Gordon here and share the video on all social media platforms.
