King Khali & Sage - Chroma PINK (EP)

Khali recently said that he only wishes to get better with every release & he’s been sticking to that promise he’s made to himself. These Chroma installments have only been emphasizing what’s already known, nobody can touch his pen. He’s capable of dominating all styles but certain producers like Duvin & Sage always bring out the best from him. I don’t know about everybody else but I’ve been patiently waiting for more from these two since they blessed us with “Serenity”. These two continue outdoing themselves & these two testimonies here are a testament that the Tree Team is to stand the test of time.

“Pillow Pet” is the complete opposite of what I expected it to be with that title. Don’t you just love when he stops all that humble shit & smacks you lyrically like ol’ dude at Shoe Palace, he don’t even need to apply pressure once his foot is on their necks. He’s never sounded more comfortable, straight lounging & calmly killing it, silencing these couch potatoes. He’s earned the right to flaunt, who wouldn’t after finding much success, especially as an independent, not everybody has the same determination but as much braggadocio as there is in his bravado, the overall sound of the record, courtesy of Sage, that sweet & savory signature sound, honestly is more inspiring than anything but trust that, nobody wants smoke when the Tree team is simply trying to enjoy this summer soirée. The Tree Team continues to plant more seeds in their garden, with this being his official joining of the collective. The perfect addition to a family that’s only ever been about growth.

You’re “Damned” if you do & damned if you don’t so fuck it, Naalah is just gonna keep it a buck with these naysayers, check your insecurities at the door or her portcullis will be slammed down, she refuses to just allow anybody into her temple. The snakes still try to slither their way through any cracks or crevices they may find but they aren’t sly enough for her eyes & will swiftly have their heads removed once she catches them & from her peripherals no less. Easily one of her best performances since “POTHOS”, it’s a sense of sadness with having to sever those ties but she’s too much of a free spirit to be constricted by anyone or anything.

Khali either, he has no more space in his life for toxicity. It’s almost like people are waiting for him to revert back to his old ways & sometimes, it feels as if it wouldn’t take much, even he can admit it. He too finds it sad how much people have faked their love to get something out of him, be it his time, money, whatever benefits them but he’s had too much experience with that to not be privy whenever it presents itself & people don’t even have to try hard, they reveal themselves to you everyday. He may not carry hate in his heart but there will forever be a level of disdain he feels whenever their name crosses his mind. They need to understand that the old Khali is no more, it’s been years so they shouldn’t be acting like they know this new, much healthier version of himself. It’s probably why they try to tear him down, envy, greed, he’s blessed to not have been plagued with such filth. Only the finest soil fermenting his garden & no one can stop him from continuing to water it. If he has any competitors, it’s simply himself. This is more than just music, it’s his therapy, this is for all of his loved ones, for Mario, some just can’t seem to understand that, it’s them who are a holding themselves back, you gotta ask yourself, what are you even creating music for, just to reinforce a false sense of superiority. Boy sit down, the grown ups are trying to have conversations about life.
