Ricki Monique - Good Seeds (EP)
Last week, Ricki Monique faced quite a dilemma pertaining to the release date of her upcoming EP titled “Good Seeds.” The EP would be dropping the same days as Kendrick’s anticipated album, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.” It had been something not planned to fall on the same day as him since she did share the news that her project had been pushed back so many times that the date of May 13th would not suffer the excuse to be pushed back again. Even with this unforeseen matter happening, she was still hopeful that her project would not be overlooked, which I’m excited to say it was not. Like many, I gave my fair share of listens to the Kendrick album later that evening, but I wouldn’t end the night until my ears were sonically pleased by hearing Ricki’s soulful, sultry voice. In six records, she softly plants a seed into your mind that grows within range the more you experience her words & art. It sprouts with everlasting wonderment that lastly blooms into this sensational piece that you can’t get enough of. To no surprise, since her release, I’ve been seeing many of her existing fans and new listeners gravitating to the release with no doubt that her shine was not blocked but became brighter. Ricki Monique is forever a talented soul who has put it all out on display in this EP, much to our delight.
The introduction record titled “Ruby” is the most delicate gem to bless us right the gate with getting to know Ricki in all of her glory. She glamorously begins to tell the tale of her story & paints a vivid picture of herself in dashing raps. You want to know the ins & outs of Ricki; hear her discuss them in an intimate setting that will draw you in and mold herself right in front of you so you can keep a piece of her soul close to your aura in these remaining tracks. Her next record, “Cereal,” was the second time hearing her art & one that I adore since we heard her spilling out her woes and troubles in a personable release that sees her contemplating success. She starts off the track by listing her obstacles, halting her back and the feelings she has, but then rapidly, she switches up the flow. It becomes more aggressive that she’s not backing down or being put in a corner; you’ve awoken a deeper conscience threat, and you are about to feel her wrath. She follows up some of that angst in her next record, “Pink Posture,” which talks about the subject of race & gender in different areas of social & media worlds. Your skin color or gender should never be the subject to decide how we’re treated, but sadly it is. We see a more realistic look in the past several years at how some of the heinous actions happen because of these issues. Ricki descriptively tells her thoughts on the matter by giving us a self-look into the things she’s gone through in the past to know and obtain the knowledge and growth she possesses now. In the following records, “Ftg” & Immortal” is the combination in her first visual we initially heard from her; even hearing it outside the video, it brings such a wave-worthy essence to her spiritual take that she is truly more than an artist but a force of talent. Her outro record titled “Sow” safely settles everything more you need to know about Ricki Monique; the good seeds you heard at the beginning is growing from passion and creativity that’s genuinely warming our hearts. To see this wholesome flower that is Ricki Monique grow right before us for this EP is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air to hear soulful poetry like this deliver when we need it the most.
I’m very excited to see what is next from Ricki Monique; I would love to see either the intro or outro record get the visual treatment. I hope a possible tour is also in the process; I would love to hear this EP in a live setting or even digitally for now. Until more is announced, we highly recommend you check out the album here and show it much love as always.
