If you’ve been in dire need of some motivation, fret not, the impeccable Jidé has got you covered & thank God he does! Who of us isn’t tired of working our day jobs for this dead end pay, a lot of just aren’t satisfied living like employees & something’s gotta give eventually cause we’ve been tired of waiting around for something to, we’re giving it our all, just like Jidé. We can’t be concerned with people trying to hold us back from achieving our dreams, especially when it’s obvious what we’re doing is even bigger than us. Jidé is back with a vengeance on this record, leveling up to peaks these minuscule little slow pokes wish they could catch up to. He’s forever on that inclination musically, exploring his versatility more & more, he’s rapping his off on this one!
They didn’t wanna let him in the door long ago but since then, he’s went on like Pans Labyrinth to create his own doors & now I bet those some people are now crawling back, begging for that key back into his heart, too bad it’s been locked away for too long now, not even he knows where it’s at, nor wishes to go through the tedious & pointless task of searching extensively for it, especially for those who clearly aren’t deserving of reentry. He had to get on his shit to remind these non believers that, while it made sense back then, it surely doesn’t now. Oh how sweet his victory over them must taste, their tears over him achieving what they thought was seemingly impossible are almost viscous like a thick caramel. It’s just gotta be exhilarating proving the naysayers wrong.
The whole record itself is has this underlyingly atrabilious feel to it, like the King has been force to leave his throne to shun those who dare try to breach through his fortress, much to their own disdain cause his temple is far too fortified to be infiltrated, let alone crumbled into rubble. He has an entire battalion behind him, beside him, ready to surround those who dare even think of tearing down this empire he’s meticulously built, on all sides, to fire from all cylinders to defend this veteran general in Jidé. Overall, it’s just such a militant sound from him & one I’m not used to but very much appreciate. You gotta stand tall & let these people know that you can’t be touched. Hopefully this is yet another indication of an upcoming sophomore effort from this talented tour de force of musicality & artistry, to be reckoned with.
