FRITOGANG - Hush! (Album)
It’s been nearly 3 years since we last dropped our bags on the “Garage Sale!” but this feels like a full circle moment for the gang, well with their debut album “Are You Even Listening?” hitting over 3 million streams. It’s safe to say people are indeed listening, so much so that it’s become overwhelming so the gang this time around needs the consumers to “Hush!” & once more, allow the music to speak for itself & that it does. These gentlemen are so smart that they open this album with a track fitting for what I’m certain most of our reactions were when they announced their 3rd offering, 7 days after hitting us with lead single “Thangs You Like” at that cause why waste time. “Oh Shit” is quite the easy listen, subtly smooth but these bars are as rigid as they come. It’s great to see them continue toss that humble shit out the window & pop their shit, much to the hater’s disdain. A beautiful flip on wherever that sample came from, I can’t quite put my finger on it but it adds to the nostalgic feels.
The drip is so immaculate on “Slip N Slide”, it has the ladies wanting to follow suit, just to be seen near them. A night with any FG member could change your life, that’s for damn sure but it may be the only opportunity they get to be acquainted cause once the night is over, it’s onto the next. After putting in as much work as they have, it’s understandable they’d feel a little “Restless” so they toy around with the idea of settling down with someone but they’re busy getting to that “Heavy Bag” so it’s gonna take a lot of effort on her part to divert any of their attentions away from the goal & even then, I think they’re too incessant to stay put. Nothing like those essential Levicantsing hooks, it’s impossible for him to create a weak one, his voice will forever stand out. Niko2K & Adrilla slid all over this joint as well, definitely one of the album’s standout tracks.
I love how they dilly dally between these different sounds, switching from that nostalgia laced R&B to a more subtle trap sound on “Golden” cause like Jill Scott, that’s how these gentlemen live their lives. Nothing like a good flexercise to really get the ladies blood pumping. Their allure is unmatched as they reel you in with their skillset as well as their confidence in knowing that they indeed have more than what it takes, as continuously proven over the years that they’re here to stay. On “Bang”, they touch upon the fact, with all this newfound success, people have either distanced themselves or are coming out the woodwork like they owe them something & are quick to throw shade like they aren’t the ones who switched up while they garnered all this success by simply being themselves, the one constant in this whole ordeal. There’s a hint of hurt underneath his voice but sometimes it’s necessary to sever that tie.
The gang is so talented that they can even make a simple interlude into a hot record. If you aren’t singing along to this, belting out that emotion alongside them on “Buss it Open” then what even are you doing? The ladies will have no choice but to take them up on their offer cause the crooning is too demanding for them not to be swooning once these infectious vocals seep deep into their souls. The albums lead single “Thangs You Like” is classic FRITOGANG, right up there with songs like “ROLL OUT”, these records just feel like the summer nights I’ve had in the past, they know how to have a good time & capture that good time in a song. The visuals also just released for this record too if you wish to see the gang in all their glory. Closing with a record that really emphasizes how much of a future vintage sound this gentlemen have, one thing remains certain, if it ain’t about love then they don’t want it surrounding them, they won’t be caught associating with scrubs. All in all, easily another classic from the gang & in due time, I’d say it could be their magnum opus, it’s definitely their most confident & polished batch of records to date & was well worth the wait & if you walk away with one thing from this record, let it be that, you must keep it “Hush!” whenever any of these gentlemen have something to say.
