ReyaReigns - Shadow Work In The Abyss (EP)
It had been a while since we’ve seen ReyaReigns appear on our timeline with new music; we’ve always been fans of her art since her 2020 single “I Swear” with Playground Heart, including her other ballads like “Days In The Rain” & “Secret Track.” She made updates on her social media that more music was coming, and we assumed it would be in waves (no pun intended), but instead, she made a huge splash for the new year. During the week, she released a new EP titled “Shadow Work In The Abyss” that shared 5-soul searching ballad that captured her sensational vocals on an essence trip that we’ve enjoyed many times over and are prepared to be on the red-eye through these next few months.
I first want to start with the sinister look of her album art that’s an unsettling image but helps paint a picture of the listening experience ahead. We all fight our own personal demons while living life like there’s no issue; we don’t know how to share our true feelings unless it’s in our craft, so we vent by putting ourselves out on it. Reya is doing just that on this 5-track project, and her introduction track, “Choose Your Bed To Lie In,” might be the perfect example to shed that meaning. Will you stay with her or will you go? She needs to know since this indecisiveness isn't doing either of them any good; it’s leaving a form of unbalance in their life. You need to decide now if this is what you want because once it’s gone, it may not be available for you again & if you regret it, who knows if any chance will arise. The intro is a deep ballad and one of the finest displays we’ve gotten from Reya to showcase such raw emotions in such a flourished moment. Following it up with “Black + White,” the track is more of a laid-back melody with a drive that sets the vibes feeling crisp & intense for what the rest of the EP has in store. As mentioned before, we had been fans of Dancing In The Rain” but where it lands on the project fits so perfectly to create this mystic feeling especially when you begin to enter into the bop that is “Perfect On Paper.” The track is her most exuberant release thus far on here since it’s connected deeply with her vocals that it keeps you posted up in the clouds feeling pristine from start to finish. Her track “Shadow Dance” is just the icing on the cake as far as I’m concerned, the intro welcomes you to her table, and she starts with such a delicious treat to get your bellies feeling just right before she shares the main course. This record sounds like PND heavily inspired it yet Reya controls a sound throughout the ballad that sets it in place nicely with the previous feeling from the last track and maneuvers it with such grace even though the passion of the track is built with insecurities & more profound sentiments. The production plays a massive part in this EP as it sets the mood right out the gate. Reya herself twists her vocal in such a stimulating way that it matches a captivating aura throughout, picking up on her emotional cues so well.
It would be a incredible to see some of these records receive the visual treatment as we know with her artistry and creativity bunch together, it would be an amazing release. It could be something in the works already, or she might have something else planned for the future. Whichever it is, we’ll be there showing continuous support as we hope you follow suit. Be sure to check out the ep here and share it around on all social media avenues.
