Nique Robinson - Fallen/Mediate (EP)
I’ve never heard of Nique Robinson until this came my way, so forgive me for resting on him, but I have quickly “Fallen” in love with him as a lyricist with this single alone. Let alone “Meditate,” I feel like he’s speaking directly to me, immediately I’m drawing correlations to what he’s talking about like I’m living vicariously through his words & experiences. The one-liners just keep coming & coming; those first two lines are something we all need to do. It’s something I’ve had to do during this isolation & although it’s uncomfortable, take it from Nique; it’s also necessary.
I love the extended metaphor he creates with the whole “life’s a bitch” saying cause it’s true, unfortunately. Still, in speaking this soliloquy out loud to himself, he’s also speaking to us who are listening who may be struggling to manage their own emotions. It’s important we have intelligence within that area cause only will life just be a girl with pretty eyes, nothing more, just something for you to always find beauty in her. It’s hard to find that when you’re so down in the dumps, treading the murkier waters of this earth, that’s stress can soon consume you if you’re not careful, so maybe it’s best to “Meditate” when you feel the need to spaz at the pressures of this mundane life of ours.
Now just cause he’s meditating doesn’t mean his life is any more manageable; he’s just learned how to control his reaction to these changes in life. If the things that once fulfilled you aren’t any longer, then maybe just relax, take a breath & find new things to fulfill you. Don’t dwell so much on the things which we cannot control & instead turn your focus to the things we can, I think we get so caught up in the past that we forget to live in the moment but then is then & now is now, but it won’t always be here so relax a little & cherish the positives. We all have negatives, but the positives are just going to have to outweigh them; that’s what you should take away from these two beneficial singles by an artist I’m no doubt delving into from here on.
