Thehighwaystory - Apocalyptic (Single)
The story has been unfolding at a rapid rate, like his tome is wide open & the wind is just blowing through the pages. A prolific year thus far for Thehighwaystory, the versatile artist continues to break down barriers musically with this complete change of pace for the artist on the somber “Apocalyptic.” It’s more like the ruins that we’re left with after the disaster has stricken yet; he’s sifting through the rubble for any remnants to build anew with he has. We mustn’t give up; it’s all just the human condition; not only are we surrounded by war, but it’s also a war within & unfortunately, both are timeless. Not many of us make it out of that battle alive & the fear that we too will fail or, even worse, have already been failed is a lot to carry on the conscious.
Besides the obvious fact that this is a hit, it’s like the mid-2000s for me on 99.5 Kiss, right around the time I was first exposed to the atrocities we on earth face daily. He poignantly captures just what it’s like to be a youth in America, watching a lot of our loved ones fall victim to the evils of this world. It’ll make you question everything about what life means. Is it just destruction? There’s gotta be more to it than that. It can’t all be black & white, so don’t ask why we have this fake smile plastered on our faces, how can we be positive when everything around us is so negative, just creating these borders around us as we watch the walls closing in on us & what do we do, put up more barriers.
Thehighwaystory seems to be diving more into the rock genre; lately, the last single found him leaning more towards that sound with some slight Hip Hop meshed with it as well, but here, he went full-on rock, a beautifully tragic ballad for the times. I know it hurts to reflect on what has occurred; it can seem impossible to push through all of this chaos, let alone silence the din that’s causing our ears to ring. Sometimes fighting isn’t always our best course of action; sometimes, we’re too weakened even to tread lightly. I know I’d rather submit at times; sure, we dream of rising from these ashes like a Phoenix. Still, we fear once in fight or flight mode; we’ll only be left-wing weary, hoping that at least the angels waiting way down below aren’t as well.
