Zzay - Mirages (EP)
Los Angeles got the vibes don’t they & Zzay is no exception. Her poetry is so tangibly felt, magnetizing in how it keeps you attracted to the meditative sounds she’s floating so gracefully over & on her first release since her 2017 debut “Botany.” She showcases her versatility, both vocally & musically, on “Mirages.” Four sonically pleasing sensory overloads, so much emotion, you’ll no doubt get lost in its depths.
The jazzy neo-soul of “September Song” is a pleasant way to open up this four-track opus, waxing poetic on her criticisms of the typical American way. There’s no telling what’s true; people can’t see right from wrong, wasting any potential they may have within themselves but not her. She’s not going to let the unwanted noise consume her mind. However, she does acknowledge that the pendulum will most likely continue swinging “Back2Back” & side to side. She has no choice but to go with the motions on the subtle atmospheres exuded on that cut.
She’s getting her heartstrings snipped on “Chords,” a soulful number that’ll surely strike every chord within yourself, but she would rather just “Lounge.” It’s too much frustration that comes with dealing with people & not knowing where exactly they stand, what exactly their motives are. She’d rather bask in her blessings than to willingly let anybody prey on her sadness. All in all, “Mirages” is a moody masterpiece, melancholy from start to finish, 10 minutes of eye-opening lyricism & soothing production, intended for the real thinkers only.
