Chrystal Doomes - Doomesday (Album)
It’s “Doomesday” & Chrystal is here to establish her dominance over a plethora of different soundscapes, some reminiscent, some exuding modernity sonically speaking, another one of those albums that could’ve come out back then, but it’s out today, refreshing.
“Old School” kicks things off, letting us know how much of a student she is of those who came before her. It’s an acknowledgment of the sounds she grew up perhaps heavily listening to, with its smooth, late-night bassiness, it’s almost like she misses this sound & is trying to bring it back to the old while remaining anew.
“Bad For Me” & “Hands in the Air” both explore dancehall, “Change” is a more modern trap sound, “Through My Window” & “Black Sheep” are both subdued Neo-Soul at its finest, Jill Scott would be proud. “Ms. Pitiful” is airily smooth R&B; there’s a lot of genres explored on this extremely smooth & soulful record, a lot of empoweringly heartfelt gems throughout this masterclass in poetry in motion, I think another rose just grew out of concrete in you Chrystal.
