Carlos Coy II - The Talk (Single)
If you were born in Texas, especially Houston, you know who SPM is, a rap game legend. It’s like he’s almost forgotten, but his children seem to be carrying on his legacy & ushering it into this new generation with their own styles musically. If you’re like me, someone who has clearly been living under a rock my entire life, then you’ll be surprised to learn that he has a son, something I, for whatever reason, was not aware of, but boy does he shine on his debut single.
It’s impressive to see his son carry on with Dope House Records, surely making his father proud behind bars where he’s been bound to for almost two decades, but this isn’t some sort of nepotism just cause he’s his son. His son is a promising talent with this single, and the content will remind you of his father, but the style in which he’s administering this level of dope to the listener is as modernist as it gets on “The Talk,” & boy does he talk it.
We can only hope to see Dope House Records continue to stay afloat & grow into at least some version of what it used to be but still anew like this single has proven its capable of doing. As always, it’s nice to hear from the man responsible for this, even to be possible prepping his son up to carry on the tradition of just dope music representing his familial tree to its fullest. People are going to acknowledge his father’s work as well as the work that’s superseding it.
