Reeze - Bad Guy SZN (EP)
Shoutout to Dingo Johnson & Aye Cue, who had been conversating on Twitter about Texas artists to check out. Aye Cue had mentioned Dallas artist Reeze as a recommendation. At first glance, I was unfamiliar with his content but coming from The Playbook author himself, we just had to take a peek ourselves to see if the recommendation was worth our time, and I can tell you firsthand that we were pleased with the results.
Reeze had just released his EP titled "Bad Guy SZN" back in September, which had gotten much praise from his fanbase and many others who had been newly introduced to the Dallas crooners content. We took our first listen in with the intro titled "Chances," starting with a melodic soundscape to draw you in while he talks about the chances he and his family took to get to where they're at today. He's a product of "started from the bottom to now we're here," which stains his artistry to be a beacon of hope that anything is possible as long as hard work and dedication are in the mix. He exits to track with versatile series of rap that I didn't expect but to shift over to the next record, "Lick," I understand that he's not just singing on the project but rapping, which is another occupation on his resume. He's just setting it off with lyrical aggression while securing the bag pulling off another lick in the process. "Love More" is a compassionate ballad of the intimacy he lusts for in his female companion, expressing the things on his mind that he wants to do with her while still embedding his rich wordplays to the discussion. The last track of the album, "Bad Guy Business," is the best of both worlds since we get the dynamics that we've heard for the singles before mixed all together perfectly. It's matched with his persona of being the bad guy, stacking up his paper, not giving a fuck about your feelings, and keeping an eye on the prize of successful living. It's expressed heavily throughout the EP that Reeze plays the part well, even though he's not, but like Tony Montana said, " You need people like him to point out who the bad guy is," which is why he's labeled himself as so.
Truly a sensational project that I can't believe fell under our radar, but no matter, I'm glad to have heard it now and hope to get many others to listen to it very soon. Reeze has seen a lot of success since the EP, he has a new track coming tomorrow that I was be paying close attention for plus I will be purchasing a Whatabadguy tee on payday and recommend you do the same. Until then, stream the EP here and make sure to continue sharing it on all available social media avenues.
